Word of Warning - when I learned how a zipper works, I was totally disillusioned and didn't pick the book up again for a long time. I liked the mystery of the zipper I didn't like the magic being dispelled.
![]() The (perceived)implications of this statement are hilarious! If one views the statement as a metaphorical application for the possible results stemming from cognitive dissonance, it is quite telling. That is most likely just in my own mind though, and probably not the intent. ![]() Oh Creative - you and language! ![]() |

The average human lives let us say 80 years.
If we were to start reading books seriously at the age of 15 until our death we may get a fraction of what has been written in this world. Let us say that we read an average of 1 book every 3 days. That would make 10 books per month. Then we have 120 books per year. That would make 7,800 books a lifetime. Give or take of course. This is just an example of extremes! Yet have you recently been to a bookstore? I go every week to buy at least 2 books of which I found interest in. Most of the books I have hanging around collecting dust are unread! Not because I don't want to read them, but I cannot find the time. I read a book per week and probably only retain half of the information after laying that book down for over a month anyway. So 7,800 books in a bookstore might cover a small department, but nothing compared to the millions of novels that are out there today. What ashame I say that curiousity will kill me one day for knowledge is so valuable to those who cherish it. Thankyou for the suggestions on the books you offer folks. I will check them out ![]() |

I read 4 or 5 books a week
I read really fast and thats kind of a drag. Right about the time I get into the flow of reading and it gets interesting I finish the book and have to start another right now I'm reading "Moonwar" by Ben Bova, and "Collapse, How Societies Fall or Succeed" by Jared Diamond, and the "Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler I always read two or three books at a time |

It is rare so enjoy that gift you have! This indicates you have a very high IQ level. I think after reading for many years one can actually read faster without knowing it. What you do is something not many people can do or have a chance to do. I read at a moderate rate and only retain information if it truly interests me and of course if the information is used in the end. I read a book a week, sometimes (rarely) two if I do less writing. I am more of a pleasure reader, so I sometimes just read a chapter then put the book down and reflect on it before going to the next chapter. Everyone is different of course for we all have different interest on subjects also. Please when you have the time then post more threads and share what you have learned. Break down the knowledge from the books you have read and put in simple words (for me at least)to learn from when you have chance. ![]() Of course only if you feel like it and want to share what you have learned. ![]() |

not really yanno. IQ is a measure of how well the brain functions and conceptually gets from A to B to C whereas I just have a good memory and remember everything I read when it comes to brain function I'm just another dumbazz redneck |

I doubt that highly that you are a dumbass. I read somewhere that IQ means how much information you can retain at a certain amount of time also. So I am sure IQ can equate to this also amongst other studies. but retaining information isn't easy for everyone either. Many suggest to read or study with occassional breaks. How much value this holds I am not sure, yet I know that I need my breaks after reading one or two chapters ![]() |

Yes I have had read books where I was still reading until 6 in the morning and having to go to work a hour later. Come to think of it this is scary! I don't want to do that anymore. ![]() |

I only had the opportunity to read "The Power of Now" and " The New Earth". I am planning to buy his videos soon. This will give me a chance to watch and listen and also give my eyes a rest from all that reading. ![]() |
