Topic: Picking Grapes in Houston | |

The grapes are ripe on July 11 at the local winery. They feed you breakfast to get free labor to pick grapes. They also usually have good live music at the vineyard on Sundays to bring in wine drinkers.
Is this common for other areas too? If someone (namely me) wanted to do that while in your neck of the woods, where would they go? If the vineyards don't do this type of PR, what do they do? http://www.haakwine.com/ |

What a gimmick. People actually fall for that?

Of course it's a gimmick, but several of my friends go over there on a regular basis and listen to the live music and have a lot of fun. It isn't that big a stretch to visit, laugh, and cut some grapes too. I like learning about the growing of grapes anyway. It's like a free class.

![]() ![]() Picking grapes or the music part? This Sunday’s entertainment is Tommy Dardar whose music is Louisiana Swamp Blues. He plays from 6:30 to 8:30. It's free. |

In French and German wine yards it is quite common to take on students for the harvest. They get their keep and pocket money.
Some of them have weekends with music and wine in places where there grows no wine, like in the north of Germany. There they take orders, and deliver the wine free of delivery charges. |

Sounds like savy marketing. Think of all the free PR and community support they get even if the free labor is miniscule.
