What is really meant by honor your father and your mother? Does moving away from their complete religious beliefs mean You have dishonored them?

i think this says what I'm trying to say better

Honoring your father and mother is being respectful in word and action and having an inward attitude of esteem for their position. The Greek word for honor means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honor is giving respect not only for merit but also for rank

If you are raised by your parents within a certain framework and don't follow through then you've dishonored them.

Does that mean the parents are dishonoring their children by making their mind up for them? taking away their free will? their right to make up their own mind?

Ive never seen disagreement as dishonoring.
