I prefer Avast over AVG. It doesn't hog as many resources.

NOD32 and Kaspersky are the best paid antivirus programs. For free ones, I'd try Avast. Won't slow your computer down like AVG does. I say this because I've seen it a number of times on quite a few machines.
Superantispyware and Malwarebytes are good antispyware programs and are both free. |

I use the top rated free anti virus / antispyware according to Consumer Reports...Avira AntiVir Personal... As long as one is not using Macafee or Symantic or anything by m$, I would not knock their choice. |

Comodo has a combination anti-virus and firewall suite that is also free. It evidently works pretty well, too.
As far as anti-spyware programs, i use a couple- - Spy-bot Search and Destroy - A-Squared Anti-Spyware - Ad-Aware Classic and - Spyware Blaster. |

I prefer Avast over AVG. It doesn't hog as many resources. actually i have noticed avast uses more resources on mine it could be a sensitivity issue tho i guess i use them both and scan with housecall on occasion i have had house call clean up a few things avg and avast missed i have also had avast and avg both pick up things the other missed and thomas get out of the fridge the elephant wants in (joke thread) |

I use the top rated free anti virus / antispyware according to Consumer Reports...Avira AntiVir Personal... As long as one is not using Macafee or Symantic or anything by m$, I would not knock their choice. I am in FULL Agreement with Thomas! I have used AVG Free Forever, until I got the Worst Virus I have Battled to Date... "Virut" When AVG Stopped working, I had to find another... If I am not Mistaken... Avira either Nagged you to buy it, or was not customizable as far as what to scan or when scanning happened... Believe it or not... a Friend gave me "Symantec Endpoint Protection" and as I was at my wit's end... I tried it, and have been happy with it! (I KNOW What an Oxymoron that is - I've been Preaching that I Hate Norton for Years!!) I have also been using the Combination of Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware Personal SE forever... I am Extremely Bummed that they have stopped supporting the Beloved older version of Ad-Aware, as I Hate the newer ones... I am now using the Free Version of Threatfire in its stead, and Very Much like it, for it gives "Zero-Day" Protection, and is Completely Automatic, rather than having to be Manually updated and run like Ad-Aware and Spybot... Check it out Guys!! |

Avira is a pretty good program, did the scans at scheduled times and all, and I loved it. Didn't mind the nagging because it is really so good. Unfortunately it stopped working when I got the service pack for vista.
I'm back to avast now (AVG used to bog down my computer), and I love it, too. |
