In a school of fish...is there a leader fish? an "alpha" fish? How do they know where to go?

Maybe it is like a flock of geese. They always have a leader, that change up from time to time, and if one gets ill and falls, two will go with it, stay with it and then catch back up to the group later. How cool is that?!

Haven't you ever read "Swimmy"? He rounds up all the little red fish and teaches them how to swim uniformly, so that the entire group makes the shape of one big fish (to prevent the big mean fish from eating them all) and then Swimmy gets to be the black eye!

Oh! We have that in our two year old class. |

If you've ever noticed, the lead goose never honks. That's because he isn't passing anybody. Also, you've probably noticed that when geese fly in groups, it's always in a "V" pattern. That's because they don't know any other letters. |
