Even when I'm in a nice mood and respond to their "hi" emails with a little more, trying to get them to write a little more, it tends not to work a whole lot. I've realized that most of the time (not all, of course) if someone doesn't put any effort at all into an email in the beginning, it doesn't change much after that.

Well. isn't that better than "no mail"? I was just gonna say that! |

I agree with Lilith and Singmesweet. No reason not not to be able to come up with more than a "hi" in an email. That never got a response from me either. And in my case, I get a lot of "roll tide" and that's it. Can't think of more than that?

The ones I usually get are.
Hi. How is the weather? I`m from the United States but I live here in Africa. I was on vacation and I lost all of my money. What is the nearest airport to you? Would you like to meet me? Could you send me the money to come and see you? Yada Yada Yada blah blah woof woof. I`m so damn glad that I got off of match.com. I haven`t gotten a e-mail like this on here yet. I have been here for almost 2 years. I am so greatful for the friends that I have here on mingle. I`m sure that now I posted this that one of my wize azzed friends from here are going to send me one of these. |

I don't really understand why sending first emails is so difficult for some people. I often get emails that say "hi" and that's it. I wonder why some people think that's going to get a good response. I just got an email like that, so I responded with hi. Then the person asked how the weather was. I just don't get how that is supposed to be interesting conversation. I say we should be grateful that we receive any mail. I'm sure there are some whose mailbox does nothing but collect dust. I realize that a sometimes it can be irritating if someone cannot communicate in a manner we like, but I appreciate that someone saw something that made them want to reach out. |

if they cant put in any effort to write an email, they're either lazy and\or stupid

Sometimes I send, sometimes they send that first email, it runs about 50/50. It's easier to send an email to someone I've interacted with in the forums first though.

if they cant put in any effort to write an email, they're either lazy and\or stupid That is a blanket statement, and as such is not always the case. |

There are times I'll write a very brief e-mail to gauge interest. Why should I spend a lot of time composing a literate and witty e-mail if there's a good chance I will not get a response?

Let's be real for a second. If someone strikes your fancy, unless their e-mail is stupid or crude, you'll answer them.

Reminds me of the movie "The Hunt for Red October" "Send one ping, one ping only" Kind of a 'I am here, and I know you are there' Just finished sending second email |

If subsequent e-mails are just as lacking in depth and interest then you can draw the conclusion this is someone lacking synaptic activity. |

There is no sure way of getting a response if you send out an email to a random profile. You can be funny and interesting, but if the recipient is witless and boring its going to fall on deaf ears.
Its all about numbers. Send out as many as you can, some will get back to you, most wont. I gave up on sending blind emails years ago, even before i got in a relationship. |

If you read the whole thread, I don't think any of us were asking for much. Just something that shows they read our profiles. Lilith even gave an example . |
