they are saying that that Argentinian plane crashed in one of the trash "gyres" and that is why they are having a problem finding wreckage
for those who don't know what a gyre is. all the trash in the ocean drifts to a central spot where the current collects it. mostly consists of pelletized plastic and wont degrade. Saw a documentary about a guy who's been studyin one for years. Hard to believe the stuff that finds it way to the ocean.
