I'm a special effects pyrotechnician for TV/Film/live action shows. Basically put, if something explodes, catches fire, squirts water (or some other mysterious fluid), does funkeh stuff, rains, snows, or gets bullet holes shot through it, that'd be my handiwork.

It used to be a pretty cool profession to be in- the pay was great, and the work was challenging. However, corporate Hollywood has been outsourcing a lot of what USED to be my work outside of the state and country since Bill Clinton signed NAFTA into law.

As a result, work has been few and far between with work going away, as well as the insanely-high taxes here in Cali, AND the fact that the studios have been producing fewer and fewer movies the last decade, and that means my bills end up being harder and harder to get paid.

What TOTALLY sucks is the proliferation of "reality TV" which has GOT to be the worst form of televised entertainment out there-

- the stuff is incredibly cheap to produce, the subject matter is simply wretch-inducing, and the sheeple out there will just lap it up because they don't know better. I've even had a couple of reality TV shows call me up to "donate" my services to them, DESPITE the fact that-

- I typically get PAID for what I do, so why should I donate my time and equipment for some lame-ass reality show because they ask?

and

- the ones to make the REAL money will be the producers, who don't particularly strike me as being "hard up" for cash. Heck- the starting weekly rate for a lower-level producer is $10,000, which isn't what I recall being "poverty level".

I've been supplementing my income doing musical instrument repairs the last couple of years as a result.

Consultant for an IT hosting company. Basically I talk to CEO's / CTO's all day and listen to their projects, then put together my recommendation of the back end infrastructure on paper. It's pretty fun.

Quit my job as an Admin. Secretary to a Superintendent of a prison to move here 2003, liked that job a lot better, but had to do what I did back then. Wish I had that job back.
