In my daughter's own words...here's what she wrote on facebook yesterday about the procedure and how she was feeling:
"Well, Todd and I arrived at the surgery center at about 9:45 yesterday morning. They checked me in fast and took me back within minutes. I put on a lovely gown and then got to sit in a cozy chair while they did my vitals and hooked me up to the IV and all that. Todd had to keep getting me tissues because I was so scared for Millie that I couldn't stop crying. FInally I was ready and they took me back to the OR and I got on the table, keep in mind that this whole time I'm asking my usual 100 questions about everything. I felt the sleepy meds take over and I just cried and prayed until I was asleep. I woke up a minute later and asked if I could watch, but they said they were done. I guess it had been more than a minute. The doctor went to get Todd and said 'you can come listen to her ask the same questions over and over.' Perhaps I talked in my sleep... :D They wheeled me to the recovery room and the doctor came in with Todd and I was crying again, and he asked if I was ok, and I said I couldn't feel the baby. I was heartbroken. He said not to worry, and she has to wake up too. Well, he knew what he was saying, because within about 5 minutes she was up and kicking. So I cried even more because I was so relieved. The nurse checked me a few times, made me eat and drink a little and then let me take some pain meds (Tylenol and Advil). Pastor Troy and Debbie stopped by and I think I was still a little loopy. :) The released me a little after 12, and I went home and slept for an hour or so, and spent the rest of the day sleeping in between visitors and calls. I didn't mind the support a bit! :) I got to look at the tumor, it was a little thing, and they sent it to the lab. They said it would take about a week until they know anything. I will post when I know. This morning the pain meds had worn off and so I had to eat before I could take more. Now I'm fine as long as I'm not moving. But I'm bored and don't want to watch anything or read anything... so I'm keeping myself busy with thinking about Millie and wondering if she'll be like her mama and always ask 100 questions about everything. :) (Millie = Amelia, my granddaughter-to-be) |

Thank you for posting the note from your daughter. I am an OR nurse. For us, surgery is routine, it's what we do all day long. We harden ourselves to the emotions/pain of others so that we can do our job efficiently and effectively. What may be 'just another biopsy' for us is a huge day for the patient. It may be their one surgical experience, and it can be filled with fear and anxiety. Know that everyone is doing the best they can to make sure that her surgery is routine, without glitches or attentional waiting. And that some of us DO pray with and for the people entrusted into our care.
