ok your check engine light will come on and stay onafter 10,000 miles
when you are driving over 50
if it comes on and flashes on and off for three or more times it is
sending a code
if your car is about to vapor lock the sensor will shut down your fuel
pump
if this happens you simply change out the ECM fuse
take your car to an autozone store they will read your cars
computer and can find the problem quickly for free
most of the time this check engine light is just set to automaticaly
come on and stay lit after the car has ben driven over 10,000 miles and
reaches the over 50 mile per hour speed
the only time to worry is when it flashes
each flash is a code, 5 flashes means engine vapor lock

Could be just about anything, look at the mileage he said he had on it.
Time for a new motor or a new car, I'd say.

go to the auto store and get a can of Sea Foam...and run it thru your
gas tank...does a great job cleaning fuel injectors...

Start with the free auto zone computerized check. They will point you in
the right direction. If it is so0mething simple that you can change like
a filter...you can save a bunch of money by just replacing that
yourself. After you have the computer check you can go right back into
the Auto Zone and pick up the service manual for a Toyota of the same
year and type and it will tell you how to do the repair. Its always nice
to have the manual on hand for this purpose. It has a trouble shooting
section in it.
