Well I would say it depends on the pie if they should be seperated or not A good apple or pumkin pie for instance is always compatibale with ice cream , however I think a banana cream or lemon meringue pie would fight like the devil with icecream and therefore an immediate seperation is in order

ah, you may be right there. I don't think I've ever seen a lemon flavored icecream. But then banana cream and boston creme already have cream in them so all you have to do is add ice, preferedly in some sort of drink.
