Yellowrose...you know what I think but for the rest of your...
There is a vast difference between sheeple and people of faith. I despise one group and deeply respect the other. I never ever identified all faithful people as sheeple. At any rate... My point is, this kid had no choice, this is after all a kid not just a barely formed collection of cells. He deserves a chance at life because...he is alive, functional, independent, thinking... What about the parent who decides fasting is decreed by God? Is it okay for that parent to supply just the barest sustenance to a child? Let's say they follow a biblical diet? (Yes there is such a thing) Now, let's contrast that with the parent who worships a needle instead of God who spends all their money on drugs. Both kids are eating the same diet. Is one parent protected constitutional and the other a criminal? I think not. As a parent I cannot imagine doing everything possible to save the life of my child. It sickens me that some people, wrapping themselves in the illusion of faith, can allow a child who could live to die...it is child abuse...no different from that of a drug addict or a absent parent. They are killing a child...a real child, an independent functioning human being...but this is okay why? Doesn't it conflict just abit with their por-life horse$hit? |

I know that I would do everything in my power to save the life of my child. Nothing would stop me from doing that!

I find it rather interesting that everyone claims to want to do everything possible to save their child, when I can bet a fair amount of you are probably Christian in some form or fashion, and yet you happily hold up someone like Abraham as this super-wonderful guy who would have willingly killed his healthy child because God told him to do so. A test of faith.
The article and other articles floating around on this family state that the child AND the parents made the decision to go the route they did. They should be allowed the right to make that decision and not have the government and other people who probably don't know the entire story trying to take away their rights. |

why doesnt the kid have a guardian at liediem (probably spelled wrong)
he should have one the op does not mention that he does the kid needs an attorney to speak for him not a judge that pushes him into doing what the judge says the parents have their attorney that does their bidding the child should have his attorney to do the child s bidding and the dept of human services should have their attorney and the judge should hear the case as presented then rule for the argument best suited not just state what the case should be and how it should be handled the first thing the judge should have done was appoint the kid an attorney what is the system come to a kingdom with the judge being the king |

I am sorry but...this kid is and has been under the constant sway of his parents. Is his opinion really independently formed?
I asked this in my other post and I will ask it again. How many of you all follow your parents religion in the same manner as they did? Hasn't your relationship with God changed over the years? Even those of you who are very faithful and consistent believers I bet do not fall in lock step with your parents version of faith and obedience. This kid deserves a chance at living so he can make his own call unfettered by his parents ideas of right and wrong. As for the lawyer? It's my bet that the kid does have independent council or at least had the option to have it. |

Hodgkin's Disease Or Hodgkin's lymphoma is a very curable form of cancer. My mother died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma which is much less curable.
I really don't see this as having anything to do with real religion. These people are just incredibly stupid, uncaring, and/or crazy. The judge did the right thing by our CPS laws. |

I have reread the OP...the Nemenhah Band follows what Native Americans believed (that is different than Christianity)
they believe in alternative healing. I don't believe they said how bad the child was and if they want to try alternative healing first...they should. i would rather my son be treated natually before medicines. chemo puts a lot on a body...especially children. if their way doesn't work...then they should try modern medicine again...Nemenhah Band is a Native American based group, but I know how people love to point fingers at one particular group as if they were all a like http://www.nemenhah.org/internal/due_dill.html |

I wonder though...if this family practiced voodoo...would there still be the same arguement in here?
it's not as black and white in the world. |

Im thinking the west may never have been pioneered if the Department of Child Welfare and Social Services existed in the mid 1800! Just think about all those people who packed their families up in wagons and hauled them through deserts, blizzards, and threat of Indian attacks. All this done with nay a Dr in sight. No heat in the winter, and no AC in the summer. Snakes, Scorpions, Mt. Lions, and Grizzly bears. |

I think you'd see less support for the parents. But frankly I think that is very wrong, it should be the same regardless of which religious beliefs the parents hold. |

I agree....I wonder if those opposed now would support them instead for their alternative cures |

They just happen to be wrong in this case. There is no known natural cure for this disease. There are modern treatments that work and not giving him quick treatment is a death sentence if the cancer metastasizes. |

i agree that sometimes modern medicine needs to be done. i don't know a lot about Hodgkin's but i know chemo is h*ll

Cultural Genocide! Is it still genocide when they do it to themselves? Serious question I don't know. |
