OMG!!!
I can't believe people still think this way...or, not so much that they *think* this way, but that they will actually ADMIT to it.. Here's an email I just got, from another site: "I'm a nice white male who likes rock and other music, but not black rap. What kind of music do you like, and do you like rap and negroes?" |

I live in a rural area of MO, but not that far from St. Louis. The guys
I have dated from around here, they are all prejudiced against blacks. Wrong thing to say to me! My brother in law, who has been very kind to me, is black. I absolutely will not tolerate prejudice. I will drop a guy so fast his head will spin. Like you, I am astounded anyone still thinks that way. |

Well, the guy who wrote me lives in Seattle. I live in Nashville, right
the midst of "The South Shall Rise Again" mentality, and these days "most" people aren't so backwoods like that anymore. My neighborhood is very diverse and everyone gets along just fine. For the record, no, I don't like rap music that much. I like Motown. But didn't we stop calling Black people "Negroes," like, a half-century ago? geeeeeeeez |

People are such idiots, scary how the human race doesn't seem to improve
itself very much. <<<<Scotty Saltine (ie. cracker) |

I live in a country where almost everybdoy is mixed with black, chinese,
hindi, spaniard... I have never felt prejudice against me here. I was never "labeled" for the sake of "statistics" until I moved to Louisiana. Then I stopped being a person, a woman, and became "hispanic" or "mixed race". It is so sad to live in a world that can't see past these differences. Diversity is what makes life worth living. And I am at least 1/3 afro-caribbean, 1/8 hindi, 1/4 native aborigin, 1/4 spaniard, and who knows what else... Go figure! |

holy crap, I laughed so hard at Jeanc's post. |

I think the appropriate term for the ethnia is "negro". Please correct
me if I am wrong. "Nigger" or "boy" or "that people" or "you people" wouldn't be right. "Negro" means black in Spanish. |

These days it's not likely you'll hear Black people being referred to as
"Negro," even. It's kind of "60s." Usually, at least from what I've heard, nowadays they prefer Black or African-American..or, don't like being "labeled" at all, unless there's a reason for making that distinction. I know a lot of people who, if told about an incident such as a shooting, or a fight, or someone cut you off on the interstate or whatever and you know what the first words out of their mouths usually are? "Were they Black?" Or, "I'll bet they were Black, weren't they?" Yep, 2007, and we're still dealing with that kind of ignorance and prejudice. |
