Aiden, I had no problem whatsoever interpreting what you meant. And I
have no problem with your opinion either. If the girl was truly sick, and she asked to be let off the bus in order to throw up, then the driver drove off and left her, then it would be TOTALLY the driver's and/or monitor's fault for having done that. If the girl was not sick, then the driver had no business letting her off the bus at a stop other than her own, unless she had a permission slip. And even then, hell, those can be forged. However, if she wasn't sick and didn't just "get left," if she did it in order to play hooky from school, then she is just as much (if not more) at fault than the driver/monitor are. The reason I say "more" is because she knows not to do that in the first place! And I'm not saying this as an affront to GEHC and I hope she knows this. I'd say it no matter who posted. If MY OWN DAUGHTER pulled a stunt like that, she'd have hell to pay. That's just how I approach parenting. I don't believe in absolving kids of their accountability just because they're "kids." By the time they reach teen age, they're old enough to know better. And sure, they're going to "do it anyway," but, at least in my household, they'd know they'd catch hell for it later on, so they'd best have themselves a grand old time while they're skipping school. |

Greyhound, you raised some good points. Some of the newer school buses
are quite long. The school bus driver is responsible for all of the kids not just one. In some places the school bus has to go over train tracks. The history of the school bus itself is quite interesting. The doors on top of the bus incase the school bus lands up on its side. Adults who want to get on the bus along the way. Some may be parents. The two way radio should be a federal law. The bus monitor should be a federal law. What if the school bus breaks down on the way and what if the school bus runs out of fuel? Kids that try to get on the bus when the driver has to take it home. Kids that like to take out the emergency flares to knock out another kid on the bus. Kids that like to play with the exit door while the bus driver is driving. Kids that complain whether the bus driver has the radio on and they don't like that music the bus driver is listening to. Kids that try to take the seats off the bus and throw them out the exit door. Kids that act up if the school bus has a flat. Bus drivers that have to work more than one job because the salary of the job doesn't pay that much and then the school gets off early interrupting sleep. Diesel buses that have to be plugged in the winter. Parents that call in continually complaining about how their kid got hurt on the bus. I don't want the job any more. You can have it. |

caitlyn's first year in school started with a bang. her
sixteen-year-old sister went to the high school, which was across the football field from caitlyn's school. the teachers were well-informed that hailey would be walking caitlyn home from school, and that they were to hold her there until her sister could get her. we only lived maybe half a mile away, but that's not the point. hailey showed up to get her sister, and she was just gone. none of the teachers had a clue...the principal, several teachers...they were all searching for my baby. she was found at my elderly neighbors house, thank goodness...and she had walked the whole way herself, including crossing a fairly busy street and railroad tracks. to give the school credit, they responded well and quickly. more teachers were assigned to the area, and a fencing system was put into place so that the children could only leave in one place. as a teenager, i skipped quite a bit of school. i would have made certain i got off AT the school, however... as a mom, i'd've been furious, both at the school, AND at my kid. however, i'd also realize that stuff happens. |
