FOR THOSE WITH NO MOTHER
With all the people in our lives it never ceases to amaze, that no matter what our age we long for the woman who’d lovingly cradle us. Some had loving mothers in their lives, for every season, while many missed this primal need, for whatever given reason. The longing for mother is in our DNA; our hearts and Souls will seek her out 'til longing's held at bay. We seek her with our eyes, and with our every sense; we seek her on a crowded street, the need for her intense. Our bellies tell a memory of our umbilical cord. But what we may have never had by way of connection can strike us to the core. Yes, there was this woman who gave birth to us, yet we may have never known her undying trust. So on this Mother's Day, as many celebrate, you may weep inside if your mother was away. Whatever your reality, you have come into this world because a certain woman said yes to giving birth. If you cannot celebrate the Love of mother in this world, at the very least, celebrate your worth. ~© JDS 05/09/2009~ |

"you may weep inside if
your mother was away" Orphancy - that we will outlive our parents - is our common expectation. You have painted in pain the realization of some of us that we were always "motherless". Blessing on those of us who thrived despite that absence. I also hear your call to nurture life around us. (You continue to amaze, my girl ) |

This strikes to the core for many. Blessings for the life we have through mothers... some never seen, some absent, some a necessary part of our lives. Just beautiful Angel.

Yes, I did write the poem, in today's early morning hours. I was thinking that, indeed, many can and do celebrate this day with joy because they had, and may still have, a present and attentive mother with the capacity to Love. Yet, I also thought of the millions who have not known, or will never know, the same. Thus, the write ~ To acknowledge and speak to those with this primal life experience. Most businesses or greeting card companies clearly do not deal with this Truth. Not surprising, yet nonetheless. |

MOTHERING OUR MOTHERS
I called my mother today. Quiet she was. Her mother long gone. Her mother never present, never sent for her. I could hear her sadness, her passive tone. I held her close, just to remind her she was not alone. Sometimes we need to mother our mothers, for they too, at times, need a woman's touch, a woman's Love, just enough to soften the pain. I cannot be a substitute for the mother she did not have, but I will not leave her destitute; I will give the Love I can. ~© JDS 05/10/2009~ |

"..but I will not
leave her destitute; I will give the Love I can.." Serving love from a plate where none was first given is the miracle of forgiveness; it is the action of a heart drawing from the well of the goodness at the core of the Universe rather than from the well of one's history. It halts the progress of un-love what was visited upon us and makes redemption possible. You remind us that our call in each life is - above all - to love. |
