Topic: Domestic Violence | |

Why is domestic violence a less important crime than other forms of violence, and should the law be changed. My personal view, is that all women and men should be better protected by the law from this crime. And more needs to be done to prevent it from happening.

[Why is domestic violence a less important crime than other forms of violence]
This line confuses me. What other forms of violence are you talking about? Is it a lesser offense than battery? I dont believe it is. Both carry similar sentences. A battery charege doesnt automatically have a restraining order written into the crime. When domestic violence laws came out they were written to have stiffer penalties than just a simple battery (basically what domestic violence is--a battery that happens to one or more of a household unit, family or otherwise) TM |

Why is domestic violence a less important crime than other forms of violence, and should the law be changed. My personal view, is that all women and men should be better protected by the law from this crime. And more needs to be done to prevent it from happening. Instead of complaining, you need to suggest... Really Think about what you've said... How do you think someone can be protected from this crime by "the law"? How do you think it can be "prevented"? Are you going to survey all people before they couple up? Are you going to trample on people's constitutional rights by denying them their given right to stupidity? Better yet, maybe we should cut off the sexual organs of any gender charged and convicted of domestic battery so they won't have a chance to couple with someone else. I understand your frustration, believe me. I was away in the service for years and came home to find out that my sis had been getting her ass beat on a semi regular basis (when he was drunk). I was able to put an end to it (not a preferable way). If you really want to "prevent" this behavior, it is more about preventing people from settling for a piece of work like that in their life. Maybe education is the key? Maybe ensuring self esteem isn't broken down to the lowest denominator (school days and peer pressure)? Do you see where I'm going with this? To prevent these types of crimes from happening, laws are somewhat useless as they only act as a salve on a wound, an after treatment. True preventative measures would be more in the form of education, awareness and prevention of abuse during childhood. I guess I could go on but,,, |
