Topic: Bye bye to Pontiac after 2010. | |
---|---|
Saturn was the one company making them money. GM is run by chimps and circus clowns. I agree with the second part, but not so sure about the first. I haven't seen very many Saturns on the road in a while. And for those of you wondering, that is one of the GM divisions I heard was going bye bye too. |

yep I heard that too. They announced Hummer was going buhbye too

Not only that, but Saab is evidently going the way of the do-do as well... unless a third party decides to snap the company up.

I can't personally see how Ford is doing better than the other manufacturers either, as they're the worst when it comes to bean-counting and cost-cutting at the expense of vehicle durability and customer satisfaction. I've had my 1999 Ranger since it was almost-new, and I've had nothing but problems with it, from power steering racks that would want to blow out at a minutes notice (I'm presently on my third one), cylinder heads that want to crack at a minute's notice, front disc brakes rotors that warp more than the Starship Enterprise, and rear leaf springs that wouldn't hold up on a donkey-pulled carriage. Basically put, you simply can't put passenger car components in a mid-sized truck, as you'll be spitting parts out every time. It's just too bad the bean-counters at Ford haven't figured any of that out yet. I had a 2000 ford ranger with no complaints till 185k. Rotors warp from being too hard on breaks. Any idiot that knows about cars/trucks know that. Cars break if you drive them into the ground. Just because It's a pick-up truck doesn't mean it can handle what an f-150 can. Besides that, if you think the ranger has "car components", hahahaha. Dana 40 leaf springs are NOT car components. The rangers don't even feel like a car when driving them. It's not a mid-size truck either. It's the smallest pick-up truck ford has come out with to date. The old f-100 or the f-150s are mid size. f-250/350s are full size. First off, the 3.0 L engine in the Ranger is lifted off of the Ford Taurus (which any "idiot" would know is a CAR), a Porsche design known as "Vulcan". The leaf springs were a carry-over from pre-IRS Crown Victorias (a CAR). About the only thing that WAS designed for the Ranger was the tranny, and Ford couldn't even get THAT right, as they had to create a whole NEW design for their 4.0L motor. The brake rotors (a known flaw with Rangers- just check the vehicle service report websites out there) are also a CAR design. Second off, The Ranger/Mazda B-Series, The Dodge Dakota, The Toyota Tacoma, and Chevy S-10 are MID-sized trucks. Check out any periodical or automotive website and you will be schooled. Third off, if you expect to be taken seriously, please refer from calling other people "idiots" when you clearly don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. You don't have to get a corn dog stuck up your ass because you probably bet the piss out of it. I had a Ranger for 185K with NO problems. No warped rotors. The 3.0 WAS lifted off the Taurus BUT I don't blame them for using the 3.0, It's a great motor. PLUS The 3.0 in the Rangers is geared differently for more tq.. Making it more suitable for trucks. Scratch that one off your list. I don't know about your ranger, but the one my father owned that i got, had stock leaf springs that were dana designed. Dana makes leaf springs for TRUCKS. Not cars. I would presume that one is based on model of the ranger. And it seems like you know a lot, so you should know why It's a different tranny in a 4.0 than in a 3.0. A transmission isn't a bolt on part. O.o Of course the ranger has its flaws, every vehicle does. How long they last all depends on how you drive it. http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/Compact-Pickup-Trucks/ http://www.pickuptrucks.com/html/news/ford/ranger/rip.html http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=29489 They all say compact pick-up, even the 3rd one that's a ford site. |

Let us put this into perspective,
1.Everyone wants to make things cheap and disposable. Cars are no longer considered a durable good. Auto manufacturer try hard to make their cars fall apart after a certain amount of time. 2.Everyone makes cars with the LEAST amount of materials and the quality has been lacking. the dollar vs. what you are buying does not coincide either. 3.Consumers wanted beasts instead of economy. Auto makers were in a heated rush to give the consumer what they wanted rather than keep their own survival in mind. They didn't look at trends in other nations. While we made cars (and SUV's) larger and more gas hungry other countries went smaller and more economical. 4.The people running the big three were FAR too interested in profits and not customer satisfaction. 5.Labor unions drove the cost of vehicles (through the cost of labor) higher than the average consumer could afford. 6.(Ties in to number 5.) People could not afford cars bought them on credit. When the cars got repoed the people who lost the car lost the money they spent on it as well as their vehicle. 7.FUEL PRICES! 8.People in general are in deed idiots. None of these jack asses remembered the 1970s. Toyota was scoffed until 1971 after we had a real gas crisis. Nobody forced anyone into buying SUVs and trucks when there was no clear justification for owning one in the first place other than a status symbol. 9.The government actually encouraged the purchase of SUVs and other gas hungry pigs during the same time the same government was blowing smoke up our asses about "going Green" and economy. the consumer is just as much to blame for this problem as the government and the big three. 10.People who hate import cars on the basis of cost, size, "taking away American jobs" are just as ignorant and stupid as the other idiots. Labor Unions and taxation cost Americans their jobs! We drove the cost of operating and the cost of goods way to high ourselves and the imports managed to kill us in our own arena. Did the big three care about becoming more competitive? No! The way the UAW and Teamsters operate do you think they care? Christ no! I really question human intelligence and I really question how informed people are. People need to wake the hell up. I did. I smell coffee!! ...and Bullsh*t! |

I've always been a fan of GM, but Pontiac destroyed itself when every model of car they made was based on the Grand am...jmo

I have a 98 pontiac gran prix, owned it since Dec99. bought it used. Now has 106,000 on it no rust, runs great handles well, interior is in great shape no rips tears of cig burns. The only thing I have had to replace are the rotors and pads, 1 wiper ( meter maid broke it). plugs oil filters, tires as needed. still has orginal exhaust even. for me this car has been one of the best I have ever owned.
I liked the car from day 1. My ex and I were together when I bought it, since she left ( divorce) she has been through 6 different brands of cars. oh btw saab is next , then Saturn. Hummer ? the private sector may go quicker. |

What makes you think they're going anywhere? Do you seriously think that GM is going to shut down when they're releasing the camaro next year and most would kill to own a corvette? Our country will not let American icons go down the drain... Wait and watch... yes Pontiac will no longer be here after 2010 He said the makers will shut down JT not the car.. Cars come and go... They're not making the pt cruiser anymore, they stopped making camaro's after I bought my 35th anniversary edition and now they're back... Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh but I like the PT Cruisers humm what am I going to do if something happens to mine hell I like my car shshs |

A long long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while. But February made me shiver With every paper I'd deliver Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride But something touched me deep inside The day the music died So {Refrain} Bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my (((((PONTIAC))))to the levee But the levee was dry And them good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die This'll be the day that I die Did you write the Book of Love And do you have faith in God above If the Bible tells you so Do you believe in rock 'n roll Can music save your mortal soul And can you teach me how to dance real slow Well, I know that you're in love with him 'Cause I saw you dancin' in the gym You both kicked off your shoes Man, I dig those rhythm and blues I was a lonely teenage broncin' buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died I started singin' {Refrain} Now for ten years we've been on our own And moss grows fat on a rollin' stone But that's not how it used to be When the jester sang for the King and Queen In a coat he borrowed from James Dean And a voice that came from you and me Oh, and while the King was looking down The jester stole his thorny crown The courtroom was adjourned No verdict was returned And while Lennon [Lenin?] read a book of Marx The quartet practiced in the park And we sang dirges in the dark The day the music died We were singing {Refrain} Helter Skelter in a summer swelter The Byrds flew off with a fallout shelter Eight miles high and falling fast It landed foul out on the grass The players tried for a forward pass With the jester on the sidelines in a cast Now the half-time air was sweet perfume While the Sergeants played a marching tune We all got up to dance Oh, but we never got the chance 'Cause the players tried to take the field The marching band refused to yield Do you recall what was revealed The day the music died We started singing {Refrain} Oh, and there we were all in one place A generation Lost in Space With no time left to start again So come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick Jack Flash sat on a candlestick 'Cause fire is the Devil's only friend Oh, and as I watched him on the stage My hands were clenched in fists of rage No angel born in hell Could break that Satan's spell And as the flames climbed high into the night To light the sacrifical rite I saw Satan laughing with delight The day the music died He was singing {Refrain} I met a girl who sang the blues And I asked her for some happy news But she just smiled and turned away I went down to the sacred store Where I'd heard the music years before But the man there said the music woudn't play And in the streets the children screamed The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed But not a word was spoken The church bells all were broken And the three men I admire most The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost They caught the last train for the coast The day the music died And they were singing {Refrain} They were singing bye-bye, Miss American Pie Drove my (((((((PONTIAC)))))) to the levee But the levee was dry Them good old boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin' this'll be the day that I die Goodbye Pontiac! You served this nation well! |

I'll admit I don't keep up with that stuff enough anymore to know anymore than the next guy. Whoever came up with it, I think Mazda should be able to keep the name and remarket the car. If they took the Renesis motor and turbo charged it and put it in a car as small as the RX-7 is....ooooooh buddy!!!!! I think I need to go change my underwear. |
