Great game and fun to watch. Nice to see Nick and Justin back. Awesome goal by Abdelkader. Wings dominated face-offs, worked the boards. I'm sure if the bounces went the Pens direction they would take them without question. It's all about the final score! Looking forward to tonights game...

Hmmm.
A major penalty shall be imposed on any player who fights. A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation shall be assessed an instigating minor pen-alty, a major for fighting and a ten minute misconduct. (NEW for 2005-06) A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at any time in overtime, shall be assessed an instigator minor penalty, a major for fighting, a ten minute misconduct and an automatic one-game suspension. The length of suspension will double for each subsequent offense. In addition, the player's coach shall be fined $10,000 -- a fine that will double for each subsequent incident. 19:41 PIT Evgeni Malkin : Instigator - 2 min Will it be enforced? Doubtful. |

Well that was quick.
"Malkin was given an instigator penalty for the incident, but the NHL has rescinded the penalty and he will not be suspended for Game 3." |

Under NHL Rule 47.22, "a player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident."
The review was instantaneous given the situation. After reviewing the incident, NHL senior vice president and director of hockey operations Colin Campbell determined the infraction did not meet the criteria for a suspension. "Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight," Campbell said in a statement. "A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded." |

Hey Slow ... your point is well brought up and I see it "NHL" rule 47.22... BUT wha ta crock of CRAP ... first of the whole begins with a Pens plyaer SPEARING osgood after he makes a save THEN that chicken-shiat Malkin JUMPS the Wings player , ( yes we all know why ) ... and when you watch the replay THE REF is LESS THEN 5 feet away and the " NHL " deems no major for spearing AND no instigator ??? Anyone ELSE .... thats a major fighting and instigator BUT becuase the NHL wants to see its TOP players ( give me abreak on Malkin ) , in the FINALS the back-boneless review committee comes up with that .?? I am a hockey nut NO DOUBT... but apply the rules! PERIOD..... thank you for listening ... |

i know why you say that but i recorded and re-watched it...
1. didn't look like oz got speared 2. zett started the fight talbot slapped at the puck while oz was having problems trying to pinch it and pushed him down - oz does not react like he was speared but just scrambles around on the ground in the crease trying to corral the puck and he doesn't even get control of it until the melee is well underway.... then, zett gave kunitz a late sucker punch to the face although kunitz was an innocent bystander. malkin saw it skating behind the net and came around and so a pretty fair argument can be made that he did not deserve even the instigation. there was the usual yap and a shove which degenerated... the conclusion was that it was a spur of the moment and not some payback play and no enforcer was involved so yeah - malkin let his temper get the best of him again for another pointless penalty but it did not appear to be a game suspension type altercation. malkin's embarrassment is likely more than punishment enough now i see it is up on youtube...so judge for yourself but i think it was a frustration tempest in a teapot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfrHdSjZZcA pens have their work cut out for them now though |

Well I will agree to a certain extent , on ALL your points there, AND not being a Red Wings fan , per ce', I just cannot stand the CONSTANT cheap shots that the officials let go FROM BOTH teams ... and then call the crappy " horizontal stick across body " a HOOK ??... anyway ...
You are correct .. the Pens are in tough now , BUT have been there before , so lets GET IT ON .. DROP THE PUCK |

Hey hey TTO hey Slow ... And ?? what did you think ??.... Pens played HARD ....was playing ball last night and ONLY saw the highlights ... |

< Islanders fan here.
I think i remember seeing my team in the playoffs within the last decade, they werent in there long. All i ever have to look foward to is the Draft. We have the first overall pick this year, and i'm sure we will screw that up too. |

Hey hey TTO hey Slow ... And ?? what did you think ??.... Pens played HARD ....was playing ball last night and ONLY saw the highlights ... fun game. it's crazy. when the pens outshoot the wings and control much of the play as in the first two games, they lose. last night, the wings outshot the pens and controlled much of the game - and they lost!? actually, i think that the pens have needed a little more desperation and the drive to play them tight in the neutral zone, challenge them more at the blue line...this is just plain hellishly great hockey. on both sides. i'm not ready for the season to end. i'll happily watch it through game 7. |
