From the beginning of my education -- in 7th grade typing -- I was always told to never type in all CAPS.

The reasons given:

- It's not a proper writing style
- It's rude -- yelling
- No one will take you seriously because it appears unprofessional
- It questions the educational level of the typer

NONE of my graduate professors will accept any work that is typed in all CAPS.

There are others, but again, this is what I was always taught. I didn't make the rules; I just follow them!

I admit that if anyone contacts me -- written in all CAPS -- I don't reply.

It's annoying but other than that, I have no opinion. whoa

You are tremendously pissy. And anyway I'm from Washington and I like the CAPS. I hope they win the CUP!

1)U are addressing 2 separate ppl.through the use of 1 qouteohwell
2)I hope U have learned something new today for knowledge is nothing to squander away.laugh
3)The only thing your Caps are winning is a brisk early summer vacation to the golf course.roflGO!!! BRUINS!!!!drinker

I'll tell what you don't want to pick on is grammar or spelling. I've seen this tried and you would have thought that the poster was Satan himself the way he was attacked.

How To Use Forum Etiquette

Read the forum rules. Even if you're excited to be a member of a new forum and can't wait to join in, take the time to find the group policy page and read it thoroughly. Some forums are fussier than others about Internet etiquette.

Lurk a little before you dive right in. Read a number of posts, or check out the group's archives. Get a feel for the tone of the forum so you can participate accordingly.

Remember your face doesn't show. Words alone can convey sentiment, but without benefit of inflection or facial expression, they can be misconstrued. Use descriptive wording or emoticons to ensure your meaning is clear. By the same token, don't jump to conclusions about another person's intent in posting an unclear comment. When in doubt, ask for clarification.

Type in lowercase or standard case, not in all caps. By the rules of netiquette, all caps equates to shouting. If you type with all caps, you will annoy and possibly offend other forum members.

Say online exactly what you would say in person. In other words, if you wouldn't say it to the person's face in front of your Grandmother, you shouldn't type it into a forum.

Be respectful. Internet etiquette is similar to standard etiquette in this area. Appreciate that your opinion is one of many. You can disagree with another person without being disrespectful or rude online.

Ignore Trolls. Netiquette guidelines are very specific where they're concerned. If you engage in conversation, you'll raise your blood pressure and empower the Troll. You can't win a flame war, and you can't sway a Troll's opinion. Often, they don't even care about the subject; they live for the conflict and nothing more. Trolls are common and not worthy of your time. Ignore their posts—no matter how inflammatory—and eventually they'll get bored and move on.

Hummmmmmmmmm as far as Internet Etiquette it has been stated many times that all caps is seen as yelling. As well as it does make it harder to read for some.

But within Internet Etiquette it also states that you should be respectful of others and not to jump to conclusions about what another post. One can disagree with what someone else does without being disrespectful or rude.

Hummmmmmmmm seems to me that if we expect others to follow the Internet Etiquette Rules then maybe we should make sure we comply to those same rules ourselves. whoa

LONDON (Reuters) - A close adviser to Prime Minister Gordon Brown resigned on Saturday after a blogger accused him of sending emails that discussed smearing members of the opposition Conservative Party. I was wondering if you could answer a question for me, since you seem to be bothered someone typing in all caps. Why does that bother you and some other folks? It was always my understanding that its only considered yelling if a single word is typed in caps. I always figured that the person typing in all caps has a hard time seeing. Just wondering.

thank you for saying that i was using caps because i dont see well but was yelled at so much now i just bare with it
