So, would you like to hear what people paid for some of these items at the auction?
Lysol disinfectant spray, a product that usually goes for $5 at a grocery store, sold for $3 at the auction. That's a 40 percent savings. Swanson's chicken broth would normally run you $3.79 at a grocery store. At the auction? Just $1.75, a 54 percent savings. A lot of people bought milk in bulk at the auction and, even if it's near the expiration date, they freeze it. Why? Because Horizon organic milk sold for $2.75 a half gallon there, whereas it costs about $6.79 at the store. Savings: 59 percent. At the store, Triscuits costs $3.29. At the auction? Just $1.25. So, our percentages are climbing up to 62 percent on that one. A six-pack of V-8 juice is $4.39, according to the national chain we contacted. But Frecker sold it for $1.50 at the auction. That's a 66 percent savings. For some reason, juices were a great deal at the auction, so we've saved the best bargain for last! At the auction, bidders were able to snag six-packs of Odwalla smoothies for $1.25. At stores, the Odwalla smoothies are only available singly -- and in a slightly different sizes -- but if you do the math, six of them would be $10.86. So by buying at the auction instead, customers saved an impressive 88 percent. |

I know grocery store prices I feel like some grocery stores bait you with a few sale items but raise the price on other items some companies have even changed the packaging making the product smaller but still raising the price

Good example of that is ice cream. It looks like 1/2 gallon, has a 1/2 gallon price, but in the past year or so, it's gone from 1/2 gallon to 1.5 quarts. I know, I'm addicted to ice cream and it irritated the hell out of my when I noticed. I just thought I was eating more than usual but no, the package is smaller.

That's why I stock up on the sale items and only buy the sale items when I'm there for the sale. I just bought 8 containers of Kool-Aid for $1.60 each. They're normally around $3.50 each. I've got Kool-Aid for awhile.

It sounds like me. But...if there is a big sale, I buy mostly sale items in quantity. I like to cook double recipes and freeze half of it for another day, btw. |

I make a list of items I need and possible meals I have in mind but I believe that deciding at the grocery store what to buy basing the choices on price is the smartest way to shop I do coupons sometimes to but i take into consideration would i buy this anyways? and if it's at a good enough price I then choose to buy
