My local news said that if you can surf the internet freely but can't get on any microsoft owned websites then chances are your computer is infected with the virus. Well I've been able to go to the microsoft websites so I guess my PC is not infected. So no need for me to mess with downloading the tools to get rid of something that isn't even there. I still think its a April Fools joke that many people including the media are falling for. But that's just me. 
This is not a new worm, but a variation(s) of an old one. Some variants do, in fact, block you from getting to microsoft or symantec. But microsoft is not sure all variants do this. If you run virus software and scan regularly you are probably fine. I just feel better running the 5 minute scan. |
