The more I look into 'personal information' remaining private, the more I find it be false.
There is no information which is private, if one person knows it is no longer private. jmo |

Well I think it's meant to prevent people from calling the hospital/clinic and finding out about personal medical history. Obviously your doctor needs to know what conditions you have b4 treating you. right?

Your social security number is, supposedly, to help prevent insurance fraud. Also, again supposedly, it's to identify you so that if your insurance company or another doctor requests records, they get the correct ones. However, I'm not sure what good that does as I have never given my son's SS# and things still manage to get done timely and correctly. But, in essence, that's the purpose of it.

Oh, I agree with you there. I have no solution, either. I refuse to give out my son's information. My stuff is out there, all over, but no reason his should be.

It has on every insurance I've had over the past several years. Maybe smaller companies are still using it, though?
