Topic: Slang of Our Own Time

Today my skinny, pastey, 40 something, lilly white, Michigan Protestant,rural raised, Burt Bacharach listening Boss came out of his Yuppie Power meeting and proclaimed: "Word, G! Homie was trippin on the ice we're grippin, Loc. Gangsta Dawg sniffs the paper for another episode. This dealio is the shizzle dizzle, YO!" I know he's my Boss and everything, but I didn't have a problem saying,"Pat.........Don't Do That!! I felt myself hurl a little bit........G." The word "Cool" seems cool when anyone says it. Classic Hip Hop Artists are the ONLY ones over 30 who can get away with urban slang. Being Californian and 38, I grew up on the cusp of "gnarly & epic" and occasionally catch myself still saying those words.................rarely ever say "Dude". Do we sound like idiots even when we use "the slang of our own time"?
