Is there any way to get windows vista to play nice with a sonicwall

I have done alot of network troubleshooting in my past. It is always
easier to be at the terminal though when you are trying to resolve the issue. Unfortunately I do not have access to Vista at this point. Typically, the problems people have with connections to the web through routers are firewall related. If you had no problems with connectivity prior to using vista that would indicate to me it may be the firewall program built into the OS. Disableing the firewall in your OS may leave you open to attack if you do not have another firewall solution protecting you. There are also many software based firewall solutions which seem to be included with many anti virus programs as well. Your router probably has a firewall as well you should implement the firewall in the router and disable the firewall in your OS. |

Well heres the rub. I have gotten it to connect to the router before
and I have tried every trick in the book that i know, and nothing has worked. would forcing vista to use TCP/IPv4 work? Also setting up a computer as an intermediary between the router and my computer also work? |

THe version of TCP/IP should not matter and putting in a physical node
between the system and the router will not only not help but may make it more confusing to troubleshoot. Is your router set up to assign the IP addresses via DHCP? Do you only have this issue when you connect wirelessly or do you also have the same problem with a hardware connection to the router? If it is only wireless then are you experiencing the same issue with any other computers that are connected with a wireless connection or only the one? Sound like you may be having the problem only wireless at this point. That can be as simple as enabling the wireless on your router or a compatibuility issue between your wireless adapter either built into your pc or with an adapter card. If it is built in you may want to try the wireless connection with an adapter card you know is compatible with your router. It may sound strange but I have seen times when a D-link wireless router would only connect to a d-link wireless adaper card. Also you may be having this issue due to your router using a different rendition of your tcp/ip then your network card is. You would expect though that if that was the case it should be backwards compatible with the older standard as well. |
