Ugh. It's late. I'm tired, but I'll add two bits. This discussion is a self encapsulated multiverse. There are items of science being discussed smelling of basic M theory, which is a branch of physics which deals with how the universe exists and the math that defines how it works. There is also the id. Reality. Reality is different for everyone reading this blog although the universe in the same. We can indeed change our universe by our thoughts and actions; but like the lowly electron, we cannot be observed and located at the same time. Some degree of chance exists for all of us, all of the time. Good thoughts and actions trend us in a good direction. But sometimes **** happens. I am a better person for being in the presence of all of you. So there. ![]() Sh*t happens, but there is always a cause. ![]() ![]() The degree of random chance or the "uncertainty principle" I believe, is what some call the "free will" or The Will that decides to act. It is the unpredictable cause. |

I think there are more factors than you are giving credit. There is the "blame" factor where seemingly random events are actually caused by ill will, laziness, misdirected thought, subconscious bad behavior, ... what have you. I agree. But there are also events set in motion far in advance of your perspective that come into play at inopportune times. Being hit with a meteor is not bad karma, it is just bad luck. Bad things that happen to family members are not necessarily caused by us, but they may have serious impact over which we have little control, for example. There are exceptions to almost every rule. The law of odds says that sometimes, the odds stack in an unfavorable way for some. You are correct however that bad vibes cause a bad result and good vibes increase the odds of success.

From the perspective of the human condition this would certainly appear to be the case. But I personally believe that the subconscious mind knows a lot more than the conscious mind knows. You said, "Being hit with a meteor is not bad karma, it is just bad luck." How do you know this for certain? Do you know how the law of "karma" works? I don't think you do. Consider perhaps a man's karma stems from a past life? Perhaps his choice was made before he was born to die in a certain manner. I don't believe in good luck or bad luck. A man who is destined to die by way of an airplane crash may subconsciously fear airplanes and decide to never fly. Then, one evening, as he sits on his couch watching Jeopardy, an airplane dives out of the sky and into his house and kills him. He should have bought the house next door maybe? ![]() That probably would not have changed a thing. The plane would have simply hit that house... law of karma? We can't ever know all the causes. But if anything is really random, then there is no law, only chaos. |

I personally believe that the subconscious mind knows a lot more than the conscious mind knows. Yeah... How 'bout the some odd 90% rest of what our conscious mind grasps... PLUS the meager 10% we believe we so masterfully grasp? |

This discussion is a mix of science, opinion, philosophy, and humor. I do not necessary put IMHO in front of a statement. The opinion part is assumed. Do I know some things are chance vs karma? Of course not. It is just an opinion. I "feel" a range of events are suitable for karma and some events are suitable for chance.
Take being hit by a truck. It could be chance. It could be bad Karma. It could be someone's subconscious mind wanting to die. It could be a truck driver's urge to kill someone who he thinks slept with his daughter. None of any of this topic can be proved. It is all opinion. I was just trying to separate the events we may have some possible influence on (such as being too stupid to look both ways while crossing a street) from a contact with an astral body that had been in motion for a longer period than life existed on earth. From a science perspective, it is easy to prove all things are connected if only by gravity. From a Karma perspective, nothing can be proved and we all have our opinion. Mine may change tomorrow. |

Infinity. This word is the key to the secret of how this reality is constructed. Small and large. Infinitely small and infinitely large. We live somewhere in that matrix. Are we small or large? It depends on who we compare ourselves to. With that in mind imagine "cause at work." From the infinity smallest event to the infinity largest. Infinite causes causing other causes. Constant movement and change. Yes it would seem that some things are random because you cannot possibly trace the cause of the infinite causes that caused a thing to occur or what caused you to witness it. But there is always cause. And there is always an observer. Thats my opinion. ![]() ![]() ![]() People will say sh*t happens. There is a cause for sh*t too. ![]() |
