Here's another reason I prefer Mingle over any other site....
There's this other site -- I've mentioned it in passing once or twice before -- this is the site where every woman's profile pic is either a baby, a male rap star, or a disturbingly large close-up butt shot -- and they have something a little bit like Mutual Match, only it has a different name. Every day, that particular site sends me e-mails letting me know that so-and-so has selected me in their version of Mutual Match. So I'm supposed to go check it out and see if I'm interested. About 90% of these people are either from the Philippines (I have nothing against the Philippines; in fact I used to play hockey with a guy from there, but I'm not really interested in dating someone across an ocean), or are blatant porn scammers -- the Yahoo address being mentioned in the first line of their profile is usually a tip-off. The other 10% I'd rather not even get into -- let's just say it would be advisable to READ a person's profile before you go jumping the gun.... Anyway, on that site's pseudo-Mutual Match page, there is an ad for another dating site -- one I've never tried, barely even heard of, actually. And they're showing pics of (allegedly) some of their members -- it's pretty standard dating site advertisement stuff -- the girls look like they came straight out of a magazine -- they don't look like real people at all. Well, most of them, anyway. There was one I saw that was absolutely stunning. I should tell you that my own personal concept of "beauty" is a little (?) outside the norm, and for me to see someone on a dating site (or even a dating site ad) who strikes me as truly gorgeous is practically unheard of. OK, so I knew right there this girl cannot be a real member of the site. The ones in the ads never are, right? (Except maybe for those scary people in the eHarmony commercials. I still have nightmares.) But here's the strange thing -- the ad cycles through about a half dozen girls' pics. They give you "her" name, age, and what town she lives in. Fair enough. But every time her pic cycled through, she had a different name and town! I checked the others in the ad; all of them changed name and town every time through. I guess they think no one will notice? I mean, I was hoping for at least an illusion of reality. Those people don't even bother with the pretense! Jeez, I better go look at that site Summercusp was on -- maybe she's calling herself Wintercusp or something.... |

Ahh Lex... I am thinking they are hoping that people are so desperate that we won't notice.
I am not going to mention which one, there is a dating site out here that advertised hundreds of men in the Sitka Area that would be interested in me. Well that got me to wondering where these wonderful men are in a town of 9,000 people and if they are here where the hell have I been. The next thing I was curious about the "vicinity" since Juneau is 300 miles north and Ketchikan is 150 south... |
