Linda, coat the wire with vasoline or grease of any sort a few inches before it goes into your house. Ants won't cross it. I have also read bounce fabric softener sheets repels them. Hope this helps. I have found that this works Linda...The vasoline on the wire...Good luck with it... 
Update......
One long haired pure white one.... 
One short haired all black one that looks like it has silver tips on the end... 
One pretty calico one..
And more on the way!! I was worried as Loki (the Mommy) is just a tiny thing and has been so big that she could hardly walk the last few days...But she is doing great and is just purring away....

Thanks Liz, the wire is coming to the phone box attached to the house but they crawl the wire to get to the house. So I'll climb up the latter and oil it good tomorrow, if I do it today I may wash off in the rain. I appreciate EVERYONES help on this!!

Both of these should work, especially the bounce sheets, we use them at our doorways in the summertime and they stay outside where they belong
