I was wondering what everyone thought about a single guy adopting a kid?
Each year its more and more on my mind. I love kids and want some of my own, but I think my standards in a woman have made it hard to find someone who I think will be right. I dont know. Is it even realistic that a single man could get an adoption? I have not really researched it yet . . . I guess I remain ever hopeful of finding that special person . . . Its tough. |

I think it's great!!! Have heard it's a process, but I think it's great. So many kids and so little parents.

Women do it all the time so I don't see why a man can't do it. I would imagine you are going to have to have a fat wallet though. Good luck to ya.

I dont think that single parent adoption is preferable. Not that its necessarily wrong, just it isnt ideal.

my mom had a guy friend over 20 some odd yrs ago that adopted a handicap child. im not sure whatever happen to him. my mom hasent talked to him in yrs.
but he was awsome with this child. but yea in some states they dont allow men to adopt. so you might want to contact children services and get more info on that.. even being a foster parent would be great |

I think its a good idea but, some states do not allow singe parent adoptions. I did a little research and found that single parent adoption laws changed in the '70s but it is still harder for single parents and some agencies will not accept single parent applications. Utah is now the only state that does not allow single parent adoptions. Keep in mind that you can expect an adoption to cost you anywhere from $3,000 to $20,000. I also found this..... Single men face even tougher scrutiny as they are asked intimate questions about their sexuality, motives, friends, and living arrangements. They may be qualified to parent and still be turned down.

Can I adopt as a single man?
Adopting as a single man or single woman can be harder than adopting as a married couple; however, both single men and single woman are accepted by many domestic child adoption agencies. In an international adoption many countries allow singles to adopt but they are much more strict in allowing single men as opposed to singe women. Some countries like China do not allow singles to adopt? http://www.adoptionservices.org/adoption/adoption_questions_family.htm good luck |
