I have my own history with guys that hit women, as shady as it is...it still remains one of what I think to be the highlights of my life, the better of others if you will. What do you think? If given the chance would you stop someone from hitting their girlfriend/wife? If no other choice remained would you stop them by means of violence? 
and then the story goes: Jerk gets arrested. You get arrested because said girlfriend/wife has a change of heart and has you charged as well Jerk goes to hospital or You go, because you are a little slower and older than last time you tried to kick someones ass or baseball bats and/or knives and guns come out its mass confusion everyone from the family to the neighbors gets involved tempers flare asses get kicked everyone goes to hospital and then jail there's civil and criminal court legal fees hospital fees court costs everyones lives are in turmoil except the original two culprits now on a romantic cruise in the Bahamas

I have a relevant story. I was walking home from work one night and I see a 6 ft something guy just pounding the crap out of a 5 ft nothing woman. So I wandered my way over there and gave him a dose of his own medecine. Heres where it gets messed up, while I was beating the crap out of this abusive P.O.S., she went and called the cops. Who's side do you think she took?
Make a long story short I almost went to jail, but as luck would have it, the convience store across the street had a camera that caught the entire incident. Would I get involved again? You bet, because that woman is someones daughter, sister or mother. |

Yes and no. I've been in one too many awkward situations. I've been punched one too many times in the nose to get involved in domestics. I've had enough tag team wrestling matches against fighting couples. But real bad guys? Real nutso abusive pieces of crap? Yeah when you hit them with a full size ford econoline van painted black with blacked out windows and no license plates at roughly 45 miles an hour- they usually never hit a woman again after they get out of the hospital. They get the message.

I think any person that stays in an abusive relationship with all the resources that are available in most situations either is mentally ill or addicted to something that the relationship provides.
Inserting yourself in their situation is only going to make them defend their partner. And most likely by attacking you. While few times will people admidt it; but rescueing someone is jusdgeing their choses and they will resent you for it. I can't count the number of times that people will get tangled up with someone that at first they saw as a victim and later say they see how the things got that bad. I am not condoneing violence but there are a lot of ways people are "violent" with their partners; it can be verbal, emotional, fidelity, finacial, who gets the kids, ect. ect.. |
