Why this bitterness about Angelina adopting? It's not like she can't afford it, she's taking in children to give them a far better life than what they could have had in their country, she doesn't farm them out to nannies, she takes care of them herself, she doesn't use them for publicity for herself or her causes? I don't get, why the hating? If I was in the position to do what she does, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

There are 100's of thousands of children in THIS country ( the country that allows her to get paid for doing what she does ) that are available for adoption.

Instead of looking at those children, she and Brad adopt children from other countries.

I think that's a big part of where the bitterness comes from.

Those " Save The Children " commercials always piss me off because they want us to worry about kids in other countries, but they completely ignore the children in THIS country who are living in abject poverty, are homeless, have no idea whether or not they will have something to eat on any particular day....etc.

Why is it that it's so terrible that a child in Outer Mongolia ( or where ever the hell it is ) lives in poverty, but it's not worth mentioning the ones that surround us every day?

I'd like her to adopt me. I was born in Brooklyn, NY. That should count as a third world country, shouldn't it?

Just call me Captain Obvious. It's a no-brainer. Sheeeesh.

Good questions, of which as I'm not her, I don't know the answers. I can say this, though, it's extremely difficult to adopt a child here in the U.S. And, as she does work the Red Cross (?), those are the children that are in her face, so to speak, on a very regular basis. And, it's not solely the U.S. which gives her her money. Her films are (a) filmed in places other than the U.S. and (b) make unGodly amounts of money everywhere, world-wide. Perhaps that's why she feels the need to help children from all over the world. Maybe she's tried to adopt here, or has plans for it at some point in the future, I really couldn't tell you.

But, the thing is, whether we agree with her methods, she is one of the few who actually puts her money where her mouth is. She's sees a need, whatever it is, and she takes as much action as is humanly possible to help fix it.

What do you do? And I don't mean by adopting children or anything. But what do you do to make your community a better place? Do you donate time or money to things you strongly believe in? Or do you just run down people who don't agree with you? I'm not trying to start an argument or be a *****, you certainly don't have to answer my questions as they're none of my business really. But, if it gives anyone pause to think, then maybe this BS thread will have done some good today

However, I'm not bitter...I could care less how Holy Angelina spends her money OR what she does in her spare time.

What DOES bother me is that she's adopting all those kids with one ulterior motive: she wants each one of them to head charities in their home countries (or should I call them "countries of origin"?) when they grow up.
Sheesh...it's like recruiting an Army of little peacenicks. What if the kids don't feel like hugging trees in Durka-Durkistan or raising money for water wells in Upper-Slobovia?
