Topic: Please explain? | |

Okay, so this guy is a republican and presumably pro-life?
He feels HIV testing for pregnant women rewards sexual promiscuity? Can you please tell me how this testing is a reward? I mean really...even if you think the mom is a slut what about the innocent child? After all we know the only people who have HIV are immoral godless folks who should die right? Colorado State Sen. Dave Schultheis (R) caused outrage by announcing that he would vote against a bill requiring HIV tests for pregnant women because the disease “stems from sexual promiscuity” and he doesn’t think the government should reward “unacceptable behavior.” Schultheis explained his motives before casting the lone vote against the bill: We do things continually to remove the negative consequences that take place from poor behavior and unacceptable behavior, quite frankly, and I don’t think that’s the role of this body. As a result of that I finally came to the conclusion I would have to be a no vote on this because this stems from sexual promiscuity for the most part, and I just can’t vote on this bill and I wanted to explain to this body why I was going to be a no vote on this. http://thinkprogress.org/2009/02/25/schultheis-hiv/ |

From what I read of your post there is so much more going on than meets the eye.
"After all we know the only people who have HIV are immoral godless folks who should die right"? I seriously hope that was a joke of some sort? Two sides to every story remember? |

That's ludicrous.
I thought that test was a standard test already. My doc gave it to me when I was pregnant in the 90's. It was standard procedure. |

Just checking...my bad I wouldn't have approached it that way if I had not heard it before by some that seriously believe that garbage.

Yes...sarcasm...perhaps I should include small asides in my posts?
(sarcasm) (attempted irony) (humor) Something like that? Seriously...please explain, if there are two sides to every story and yes I think two sides falls short in most cases, what the hell the other side is? That's why I posted this. I am hoping someone can explain to me what the other side is. How does testing a woman and her unborn child for HIV reward “unacceptable behavior.” ? What reason or justification is there for allowing a child to be born and suffer from the affects of undiagnosed HIV/AIDS? How is it rewarding behavior to allow the parent or child who is infected to go forward and possibly infect others? (Remember unprotected sex is not the only way to contract HIV/AIDS) I could ask more questions but...*SIGH* |

I always read Lynann's topics twice because its always a news story and her opinions and humor.
Alot of times she put the opinions and humor first and then the news story last, but she will switch them sometimes and you have to look carefully at which part is the story and which part is her talking. |

I was never tested when I was pregnant

Me too, my doctor wouldn't handle my pregnancy and birth without it. That bill is just as much for a healthcare provider's protection as it is for anyone else. What an idiot! |

since I can't read his mind...all I can think of is when you are in a monogamous relationship (both partners) then you know who they have been sleeping with and hopefully you already know of any STDs or anything

he used terms like basically and for the most part. when he went to bed the night before voting...only he knows what was going through his mind

Doesn't sound like he really thought it out at all, or he is a religious conservative that tends to see things only from that perspective. Or he's just someone who likes controling others.

You know I am a little disappointed some of my favorite posters didn't jump in on this thread and support this guy like I expected them too.
You now those judgmental moral majority bible thumpers who think pregnancy is all a woman's fault? |

maybe they are afraid of being banned from the site for saying anything that could be deemed controversial.
