This past x mas my daughter and i put out cookies and milk as we do each year. This year an addition was a note tucked under the plate to santa that read " I would really like a mom. " That was the first night I have cried in years! I kept the letter. Now im working all day and take care of her at night but i think she is missing the things that moms do.(braids in her hair, etc, etc) As a dad i try my best to be Mr Mom but.... in reality Im not a mom. In my opinion Moms make a family complete. I am currently trying to get into a single parents group to address some of the issues with my daughter wanting a mom.

My dad was a single parent for a while after my parent's divorce. Don't discount that little things that you try for her. Simple things like attempting to cook her favorite food or putting her hair into a ponytail will mean the world to her when she is older.

It's tough as a single parent of a child of the opposite sex. I know! My son very much wants his father a part of his life but he is not. Just know that you are doing the best for your daughter and she will know that too!

Dude, my ex wife and I worked opposite shifts for yrs so we wouldn't spend all our money on day care and have strangers raise our girls.
I was fortunate that I got to spend so much time with my girls. My girls liked the way I brushed their hair better than the way their Mom did. LOL. Yeah kids need a Mom, but do your best being the Dad. It will be a blessing to you later.
My girls can come over whenever they want, the oldest drives now, sometimes she just comes by to see the old' man.

You are obviously a great dad or you wouldn't have posted this concern.

Have you thought about a big sisters program? There are some neat community organizations that let children meet and spend time with elderly people too, sort of an adopt a grandparent program.

Do you have neighbors who perhaps have grown children or grandchildren who live far away? I know growing up the friendship of a local couple made a huge difference in my life. I learned to cook, weave and some other neat things from an older woman who lived close by. I was able to confide in her and saw her as a lovely second mother.

Girl Scouts or Brownies might also be an option for you. Of course that will require you to get involved too. Who knows, that might be a way for you to meet some single moms or to make contacts with women who have a single friend?

Thank you all for the advice... and to update. I recently tried to join a single parent group but was denied because it was only for moms. I just entered my daughter into the local boys and girls club as well. Now i will keep working with my daughter as well as my relationship status:smile:

I don't know what area you are from but there are singles groups all over. There is a free dating site that has active members setting up singles events, if you want some information about that site please feel free to send me a message.

It is tough when our kids ask us for things we can't get. It is important that you don't go mommy shopping first in a relationship or you are probably dooming your future to another failed relationship.

As someone who didn't have a Mom I have to say it isn't easy but if people let you have relationships with them without trying to step in and be your Mom you can learn what you need to know from the good people in your life and survive with the love of a single parent. What makes life really suck is haveing people constantly making you feel less because you love your Mom regardless of what the relationship turned out or that you can never be a whole person without a family.
