Topic: Man Law! - part 40 | |
---|---|
I've got another interview, on Monday, across the river from Fargo. It's an infantry unit but they do not have combat exclusion status for females. But it's a desk job - computer geek in Information Management.
I guess I'm getting pretty desparate - a desk job AND Fargo. |

Hey Lisa Heck, I am looking at a job selling paint. Do they have one for watching it dry? I think I'm qualified for that. I was hoping to get the Ammunition and Explosives Handler job. I'd rather deal with explosives than computers. I'm still leaning toward the job in the Machine Shop, way out there where only farmers live. If he'd find me a (respectable) place to stay, I'd go out there for a few days at a time. |

Later Lisa.
Must be nice to have an option. |

I'm gonna hafta start looking for a job if business doesn't pick up. With the economy the way it's headed that is NOT a happy prospect. |
No real option. So far, just a lot of interviews.
I could have the job at the Machine Shop, but the salary isn't specific. He has more work than he can handle. I'd be mostly a tear-down mechanic, and do billing. I'd love to learn to operate the lathes and presses. So far, the best we can figure is to give me a good percentage of how much MORE he makes, if I work there. |
What do you do, AD?
I'm an appliance repair man. It's a dangerous romantic job and really turns on the women... |

Right... how far can you trust this guy? Will he let you look at the books to really see how much more he's making? And can you trust the figures he shows you are accurate? And what kind of contract do you write up for that? Will he start deducting all sorts of "expenses" before you get your cut? Will he decide which jobs you helped on and which jobs you don't get any percentage of? That could get real sticky real quick. |
I see you have subcontracted for someone too.
Yeah, and I learned to state a price up front for the job. None of this "sharing the profits" crap. Not unless *I* am the one getting first crack at the paycheck then *I* decide how to divvy up the profits. |
The hidden costs can kill.
And it's amazing how many "hidden costs" some people can scrounge up to avoid paying you what they owe. |
I'd certainly only do it in addition to another job. And since I'd be doing the books, I'd know how much would be mine.
I talked to the guy at the Farm Center who told me that Joe could do about $100k a year more. |
That sounds pretty good.
