My dad used to just boil a huge pot of water to add moisture to the air in the house.

Mine too, in the winter. He stuck it right on the wood stove. In the summer he ran a humidifier... I remember we had the same one my whole childhood.... it was this fugly brown plastic thing. I'd bet money he still has it...laugh

My dad was a firm believer in sleeping in humid air. Every night....
laugh laugh we had the same one. With the big "wheel" filter that turns around in it? laugh

also... as an FYI. Since humifiers are more popular in the winter, they're more expensive. I picked up 2 very nice 70-80 dollar cool mist humidifers in spring for around 15 dollars.
They put them on clearence every spring summer. So maybe buy yourself a cheaper model for now and keep an eye out for the clearence ones. They'll be marked down very soon.

I remember the motor electrical thingy just got shoved right into the water....laugh Was that the one??? I'm sure he bought it at Job Lot or Woolworth's or something. If he paid more than ten dollars for it I'd fall over and pass out....laugh

Ruth.... I hope the kiddos feel better.flowerforyou

My whole point in all this is that you so don't need to spend a lot of money on this for you to get long lasting positive effects. If you find a unit that needs treated water... move on. I'm a firm believer that the generic does work as well as the name brand in medical situations about 90% of the time. Plus, if my dad did it to me and recommends it to others, including my child... it's what I want to pay forward. He took really good care of me.
