How long does it take you to get over a breakup? How much do you struggle to keep it alive, kicking and screaming and crying and whining and feeling sorry for yourself? Do you move on with your life or do you attempt every trick in the book to hang on to the other person when they clearly told you its over? For a divorce, I will give myself three months. For a breakup with a boyfriend, .. two weeks tops. I believe life is too short to hang onto the past. Get over it. How about you? |

For my divorce it took me around 8 months to get over it and another 6 yrs to forgive her.
For a GF I might be upset for a week pending on how long i was with her. |

I wouldn't put a time frame on how long it took to get over a break up I do think the more you loved the person the longer it takes to get over it

Most of my relationships last 3 months, so I have to be able to get over them pretty quickly. In fact, I think I've historically been over them even before they were over!
It's just so much more efficient that way. But this last one -- well, this is proving to be a toughie.... |

I could have spent a lot of time getting over my last divorce, but I think most of the trauma was experienced before the actual divorce and by the time the divorce came around I was glad to see it. So I actually count more months than three but some were before the actual legal divorce. Divorce is harder for some people than others. For me, I knew it was coming and that it was necessary. If you aren't expecting it, it can be devastating. |

I wouldn't put a time frame on how long it took to get over a break up I do think the more you loved the person the longer it takes to get over it I don't think the more you love a person has anything to do with how long it might take to get over them. I think it has to do with your dreams for the future being dashed against the rocks and how much you needed them, etc. If they are going to be happier without you.. then hanging on to them is a selfish act. |

I think it has a lot to do with how you broke up. If you can talk about it and come to mutual, neutral ground its always better to have that closure....
Two weeks - Two years, no time limit. Give yourself time to heal or lick the wounds & re-evaluate what you want and what you are willing to give. |

I only know what Ive been through. In every case but one, when its over its me who made that observation (for whatever reasons) and bam was done with it once I realized it was a KO.
However there was that one time, where I was the problem, in hindsight its easy to see that now. Then I don't think my ego made it easy to let go. However it still only took a few weeks for me to finally figure it out. ___________________________ |

I am one of the few people that think that the shorter the relationship is, the harder it is to get over them. This is because you haven't had any time to think of any "bad" things about them. After about a year though, there are plenty of excuses I can come up with on why she wasn't the right one.

The weirdest thing is when someone likes you, but you don't like them, until they stop liking you, and then you begin wanting them. Its really messed up
