Jeannie just do what you said you will do. Get some headphones and listen to your ipod or walkman without having to listen to Little House on the Prairie while cleaning the house.

I mean that is what your mom enjoys to watch. Don't take away something she enjoys and makes her happy and content.

Good music can lift the spirits. I am sure it can do this. drinker

Ok loves mom, hmmm, how about giving Mom an headset to watch the tv, that way she can hear it and you can't?

My folks are on the other side of the US as well, perfect for me because they are all christian fundies and I am oh so NOT...

No, I'm going to have to be the one wearing the earphones. She is old and set in her ways and needs to feel that she has a certain amount of control in her life, so she really insists on having her way with the television.

At one point she suggested I move into the house with them to take care of her and Dad, but I am sure I would go insane and shoot myself if I had to do that.

I keep an eye on them with a camera that feeds into my apartment across the driveway and I can hear them if they need help. But if I had to live there I would go nuts.

I need to get my own CD player and just listen to my favorite music while I am working over there.

Well I am nothing like my mother in attitudes thankfully but the women in my family live rather normally to old age, so I don't think I will have to plan for craziness in my own old age, and if I know it ahead of time I'm checking out early. she is 81 now and hasn't changed in attitudes though.

Ah ok, gotcha. I couldn't live even as close as you do to my folks.
