"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage; from great courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependence; from dependence back into bondage."

Sir Alex Fraser Tyler
(1742-1813) Scottish jurist and Historian.

OUr complacency is what allowed 9/11 to happen so that hits home but as for the rest of it, I don't feel that is accurate for all

Also, our spiritual faith is just now waning a bit, finally so the timeline is not correct on that score either.

I hope all the 18-24 year olds that voted for Obama get really high paying jobs, they are going to have one hell of a debt to pay off.

I can't believe you said that. We are not out of this yet. Let us see what he does. He did not back down, and maybe he won't. Maybe he will continue the restructuring of Iraq. The division of the USSR, every Russian, Romanian, and Czechoslovakian that I have met love the US and remain grateful to have the opportunity to be here. Every Indian, every Hispanic legal or no wish to live here and they will tell you so. They are happy to be free of oppression, and I have heard the stories from their lips and what they endured. And no man, woman, or child would I wish that upon, ever!!!!! The United States Of America will not bow its head and walk away from the genocide committed under Hussein. It was absolute genocide and villainous efforts rule through terror and torture of fellow human beings. Disgusting and completely immoral!!! The United States started by our ancestors each and every blessed soul the English, the Irish, the German, Italians, Greeks and Asians every new generation brings forth more nationalities and identities that are defining a future for this nation and shall rise up into control of the future a myriad of nations moving forth as one.

And of which 90% of over 3 billion people approved as well as Congressional and House support of both Democratic and Republican, as well as, Independent committee members supporting going into to Iraq. The information all believed and I wont go into the propaganda, conjecture, and subjection of facts in swaying public opinion then and now through media. Its not about the greater good of the US anymore. Its about the money???? Line ITEM VETO needs imposing, but should have the approval of a majority of all Supreme Court cabinet members by 2/3's decision to be imposed. The President would have to argue his case before the Supreme Court (beholden still to a higher purpose) before being granted use of the VETO. This could relieve pork-bellying and hold Congress accountable to bills and acts submitted to the Office of the Presidency.

A few years ago I was in agreement with this. I even wrote a paper called Complacency in America and warned of the possibility.

Now however, and this will probably the only time I thank GW Bush, the government stepped too far too fast.
A new generation, sitting back watching Americans turn on Americans in strong verbal and moral disagreements, were forced out of the complacency many of us had became victim to.

They went to the voting booths strong and voted for change, They decided for themselves that America had been following the wrong path and refused to leave their futures and the futures of their children to the happen-chance complacency that was gripping their parents and guiding America in opposition to the world.

I think, thanks to this new generation, who saw through racism, used common sense, and got involved that we have been saved.

I thank this young generation and GW Bush.
Yes Bush, if it had not been for his extreme aggressive policies and lies, we may have fallen victim to our complacency.

We still have a lot of work to do but at least the people woke up.

That is a very nice Observation there Fanta. I am very proud of the young people that finally stepped up this past year and became involved in their futures. Im really hoping that they wont be dissapointed in the choices they have made.
