As long as I don't have to I will not go the thrifty way when it comes to food.  If it is only a filler and nothing else then I might.
I have a freezer and refrigerator full of food, but cooking for one is just a pain in the backside most of the time, so I end up with frozen pizza or something like that. I do have fresh oranges and grapefruit off of my trees this time of year though. 
Even though it is just me I still don't mind cooking for myself. But to me there is a difference going thrifty with your food and buying the better products I'm not one to buy off brands myself.
