Does it bother anyone else when someone starts calling you sweety and
baby and any other pet name they come up with when they start talking to you for the first time? Should these things bother me or am I just kinda uptight?hahahaha I can take critism, if anyone has any...lol |

it bothers me a little bit if it is to soon and they dont even know me.
i am ok with it after getting to know someone |

I guess it depends on the person and how it is used. Some people call
me those names but it is done in a nice way, not derogatory as a put down. And I have gotten to know them as nice people. In real life, would bug me if I didn't know them and could hear the inflection in their voice. |

Living in the south, everyone calls me sweety and baby and hun. Old
people, young people, men, and women. Does it bother me?! It bugs the living hell out of me, but I guess I am just used to it by now. |

Not meant as mean. Its hard to describe ones Lingo. In the Ghetto its

I say it to everybody and no one has asked me not to, at least not yet.
If they did, then I would stop out of respect. |

I have a friend on here who is much younger than me and a special friend
and he calls me hun or babe and I think it is cool, don't take offense at all. He respects me totally and we have a good friendship. Again, depends on how it is used and who is doing it. He is not calling me that as a put down and I get a kick out of it. Oh well, if it were someone I didn't know would not like it as much. Heck, would probably wonder if it was because he couldn't remember my name. |

I actually agree with Boom
Sometimes vernacular is borne out of culture and habit. You can sense the difference. Sometimes it bothers me when they use words in the familiar when they don't know me... other times it bothers me less because it isn't about me and more a reflection of their speech patterns. I try to feel the intention and base my reaction on that. If I want to look for reasons to be offended ... I don't have to look far. That said ... there are words that I won't tolerate and that fall outside of my boundaries regardless of cultural connotations and general acceptance. We all get to decide what feels comfortable to us. |
