Buddha taught that as long as individuals remain within the cycle of death and rebirth, they can never be completely free from pain and suffering. Buddha said people could break out of the cycle by eliminating any attachment to worldly things. By ridding themselves of such attachment, people would gain a kind of perfect peace and happiness. Buddha called this state of peace and happiness nirvana. According to Buddha, those who are willing and able to follow the Middle Way and the Noble Eightfold Path will conquer their attachment to worldly things and thus achieve nirvana.
The Middle Way is a way of life that avoids both the uncontrolled satisfaction of human desires and the extreme forms of self-denial and self-torture. What are your personal experiences in achieving the middle way as Buddha teaches it? |

When I worked as a landscaper, cutting grass and pulling weeds and planting, I tried to stay in the moment with evrything I did. I could feel this middle way then. It's harder now, years later, full of stress and dealing with life, I can only feel my old Buddhist self on weekends. But I remember being in the moment those days. It was a wonderful feeling. I hope I can find it again.

It is great that you have experienced it once before. This means you can find it again if you truly desire. It is a great way to live when one understands what Buddhism is trying to teach concerning finding the middle way of life. You are your own Buddhist in many ways and I am sure you will find it again. |

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense. - Buddha
