If any of you remember Jackie Gleason, now that was a "TRUE GENIOUS"
The Honeymooners aired on CBS from 1955-1956 with 39 episodes. I bought these 39 rare treasured episodes on a 5 DVD boxed set for about $30 along with his biography on Amazon. (A wonderful buy) I was born in 1957 and as I got older, I appreciated good wholesome comedy & only wished I was alive & grown during that era when he was doing his live shows to see him this in person! (NOT like most other filthy "SO CALLED COMEDIANS" do today) where you either need to take a gun for protection or a body guard to see a show. My 2 favorites that immediately come to mind are the "Handy Housewife Helper" which gleason ( Ralph Kramden) goes on a TV spot during a late late late show "LIVE" with sidekick Norton (Art Carney) & Freezes with stage fright! trying to demonstrate this thing! & the other was the $99,000 question game show, where after this poor soul (Ralph) studies his knowledge of music all week, missing work & blowing lots of money to brush up... to only find the intro that Norton played on the piano before he started into a song, Ralph didn't know when it was the 1st song given to him on the game show! Remember! THESE WERE DONE > "LIVE" every Sat night! in front of a studio audience! AS IT WAS TELEVISED!!! Gleason also played the goofy relentless sheriff in smokey & the bandit among many many other master works of his career. Gleason died at 71 yrs of age in 1987 from liver & colon cancer. He'll surely be missed by millions & GOD broke the mold when he made him! Any younger people who reads this "MUST" see this mans work! Maybe if more younger people did, we'd be kinder & loving each other more instead of hating as this world's in a total mess! ... |
