Topic: Christianity vs. atheism | |
---|---|
Is there any one who would like to have a freindly debate about this topic? I will take the affirmative.

Would you mind developing the topic a little more please, not sure how to respond at the moment. |

mmm, I do not see it as Christianity vs anything. Simply what it is, our belief, faith and trust in God. Our purpose to grow in His likeness. Nothing can separate us from the love of God. |

It's not a debatable topic, as far as I can see... Either you accept God's word as his word, or you don't...

To me it is like save yourself or save others. Jesus saves in my book. But also you save yourself when you accept Jesus. Jesus died on the cross so in one sense he wasn't saved. But he arose on the third day so in another sense he was saved. He said no greater love hath any man than he should lay down his life for his brother. Then he actually did that. For God so loved the world that he gave his only son. But God so loved his son that his son rising from the dead must have come from God.

We are unable to save ourselves. Christ did not have to save himself because he was God. He was unable to sin. Sin is what seperates us from God.

Hi Nubby, I'm trying to figure out the debate in this thread. Seems there isn't any, but I have been watching your postings in the General Riligion Forum and just want to say thanks. Through you, Britty, Rainbow and other Christians on the site ,I'm learning so much and it's causing me to study my Bible hard, which is a good thing.

Firstly, let me say I'm a Catholic. That being said, I have a question. Is it wrong for me to not care about someone's lack of religion? We are taught as Christians to spread His word, and to bring others into the fellowship. With all of the negativity in "General Religion Chat", all the athiests "trying to understand" our views, etc..
What I'm trying, poorly, to say is this: I know that athiests are my brothers, but is it wrong for me to just not care? |

What I'm trying, poorly, to say is this: I know that athiests are my brothers, but is it wrong for me to just not care? I don't think it's "wrong", even though we do realize they are also God's children. Matthew 6:11 American King James Version "And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when you depart there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Truly I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city". I've been dealing with this dilemma also... |

Perhaps not so much as one does not care, but has the wisdom to accept others as they are, not that that means one has to accept the behavior. If we believe that God gave free will, to all then it is incumbent on each individual as to what they do with that. |

I don't think it is important for us to care... or have care to put it in other words. We are told that we should take care for nothing.
However, we should have love and compassion for everyone. With this said, it is important for us to remember that God is dealing with people everyday (Christian or not). Some of those people are atheists. Atheists confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior all of the time and enter the Kingdom of God. All of us had to allow God to deal with us before we received Jesus as our Lord. All of us were in different places in our lives when that happened. Lately, I have been watching someone that is closely involved in my life going through a lot of pain and suffering. She is Jewish and has not accepted Jesus as the messiah, much less her Lord. I have compassion for her and the suffering that she is going through. I have been praying for her that God would reveal the truth to her and that she would have the opportunity to receive Jesus as her Lord. I know that is the only way she will find peace in her life. I have hope for her, faith that God will deal with her, and the patience to let that happen and continue dealing with her with the love of God no matter how grim things seem or how much things seem to appear like they are getting nowhere. I will not take care (or be anxious or worry) about the situation because I know God is more than able to take care of it. I also know that in the end, it is her decision to either reject Him or receive Him. The above example is the place that I have reached through prayer, study, and meditation. Not just toward atheists but anyone that has not received Jesus as Lord. |
