Unblinded

I've given my heart
And you blew out it's flame.
I sent you my love
As I walked away in my shame.
I then lent you my friendship
And you cursed it by name.
I'm not who I was then
Yet give I no blame.

It's true that I've given you
The comforts of love
Stood there beside you
Always
But that wasn't enough.

I've made my excuses
And tried to be blind,
But heartaches were certain
to open these eyes.

You let me know
I wasn't part of your life,
More things were important
And I was just part of your strife.

You wanted me waiting
Till your kids were all grown
Then they'd understand
Mommy needed space of her own.

Perhaps later in life
You'll find what you need
As I once sat in my tears
And realized
That wasn't me.

I'm sorry you're hurt
For now I've found what I've sought,
My tears have been dried
And my pain has been bought.

Yet in care I shall leave you
And hope one day you'll see
The true heartfelt meaning
In these words underneath.

Look up to the heart
That's willing to give
Take heed of the man
Unwilling to live.
Speak soft to the heart
That gives without thought
And be ever forgiving
With a love that is sought.
