Topic: In the Palm of Your Hand | |
---|---|
This was written awhile back with my son in mind. Children with Down
syndrome are often born with a crease that goes straight across the palm of their hands. My son is certainly a blessing in my life and has created a crease in my heart. IN THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS Ten tiny fingers, Ten tiny toes, Coloboma blue eyes, A perky pudgy nose. Pursed little lips, A hand that can sign, A head full of raven hair, Gosh I'm just so glad he's mine. A lick upon my face, Short fingers grasping mine, To play patty cake, Or to clap out a new rhyme. Teaching and laughing, Bouncing with joy, Down syndrome or not, What a wonderful boy! Thank God for small miracles, Praise God for such bliss, A forever family, A gooey hug and fish lip kiss. Each child is but a vessel, Of God's greater plan, Teaching compassion, In the palms of our hand. One wee little minute, Can change a whole life, A child, a teacher....A husband or wife. So many similarities, Normal eyes sometimes can't see, Down syndrome is a name, Love is all there needs to be. The child knows no difference, So take the time today... To hug and love with all of your heart, Take some time to play. You can change tomorrow, Look within the palm of your own hands, YOU alone can make a difference, One day the child becomes a man. Make a crease of your own in the life of a child.... it's in the palm of your hands! |

OK, I made it through the whole poem without a tear...but the water
works started to flow. That was very special Mystique just as your son is very specail, as mine was. Hug that little boy of yours a thousand times a day if you have to. I only wish I could do the same. |

Very beautiful poem, unlike CAT the tears did flow. Hug your little boy
for me and tell him how special he is, and save a hug for yourself, too. |

eileen...I did cry(balled my eyes out actually) after reading Mystique's
poem. I just fought the tears back while skimming down so I could read each word. Downs kids are very special indeed. I had my son, who was Downs for 25 yrs. |

Thank you EVERYONE for your positive feedback. This poem was one I
thought should be shared. Downs kids certainly touch the lives of everyone they meet. I can't take my little guy anywhere without him saying Hi to everyone in his path. He loves the little ladies with the long hair too. He's been known to run his hands through their hair whether it's at storytime or a playground. |
