Topic: Which is more fair, one person one vote, or th electoral col | |
---|---|
just as we all seen in bushs first term, the popular vote voted for Gore, but the electoral collage gave the vote to bush... do us as citizen accualy have a say in our government or is the government just fooling us to make us feel like we have control over problems around us.
|
|
|
|
they are jsut fooling us.
and so is the media...that what the use to control us. |
|
|
|
the electoral college is in place because the fathers of the constitution considered the common man too barbaric and uneducated to make such an important decision...
|
|
|
|
One person, one vote would be my choice! The other way, is putting too much power in just a few...to carry out our decisions as an individual... I prefer NOT to be a group in matters of the government, I want to be an individual!

Popular vote electing a president?
What a concept. |

I suggest you all see the reasoning of the founders on this issue and why they favored a representational democracy over a pure democracy.
Think tyranny of the majority here folks. Think about the senate where each state has two senators. This allows each state, the densely populated along with those less populated to have an equal say. |

Think about the senate where each state has two senators. This allows each state, the densely populated along with those less populated to have an equal say. This sounds reasonable to me. I am still learning about the US political system and imagined it was set up that way to strike a balance. |

Founders made a mistake. They secured our system against Taxation without representation. They thought we will be strong minded, and that will be enough.
Now we allowed Representation without taxation, through our wickedness. Something they never expected us to allow. Constitutional construct cannot work in our socialist system. |

There is nothing fair about elections, they are facade, created to emulate the real life versions of entertainment TV. My team's better than your team Oh no they aren't look who's winning Just wait till my PAC gets in the picture Your PAC does not include the pharmaceuticals Oh yea, but your PAC's don't include..... Get a clue - your vote is worthless all you play for is a chance to say your team won. |

What I have seen so far on my post is that 9 out of 10 people dont support the electoral collage system, so why is it still in play, only the people can stand up and make a diffrence, so I think it might be time to do so...

SouthFargo, people who say they don't support the electoral college, still think thier vote would have more influence. I would ask them .. Influence over what?
There are two candidates, both have been PLACED in that position by the wealthy, the institutions of wealth. What difference would an individual votes mean? Perhaps if there was darkhorse candidate, that person may be elected, but do you think if that person was not easily manipulated by the systems of power in this country, they would be allowed to reside in such a powerful seat? Think one word - assination. |

I guess... do you want the puppet on the left or the puppet on the right? there all backed and influenced by there own political agendas and lobbyest groups.

They are the same!
The popular vote in a state carries that states electoral vote. It is necessary to keep the NY and LA areas from determining the needs of the whole country! Im sorry but their needs are not the same as mine. Their concerns and interests are not the same as mine! Their choices are not the same as mine! The electoral count creates the fairest election, as it was designed to do! |

You got it. Have you taken any government classes? The "philosophy", both political and other is astounding, you'll love it. |

I like the idea that was brought up in the local paper shortly after the election. Since we probably have a better chance of getting rid of the BCS then getting rid of the Electoral College, then the percentage of each states popular vote, should be applied to the Electoral College, and the candidates get their electoral college votes that way, and everyone's vote counts.

So now we are on to taxation?
Never mind...not gonna bite...haha Anyway... The founders knew well the tyranny of the majority and sought to create a union that would not tolerate the ugliness of mobs or royalty. The discussions of Tocqueville and Mills influenced the founders. (check it out I dare ya) In what were our darkest times, when we as a nation faced our greatest challenges is was not mob (read majority)rules that brought us around to our proudest and most admirable moments as a nation but the reasoned leadership of a few brave people who embraced these same concepts the founders held dear. Those people that remembered our greater purpose. To be great we must not bow to an us and them mentality, we should not engage in the dangerous game of they did it or did worse so so can we... We cannot thump anyone with Bibles and then be offended when they thump back with the Qur'an. To be great we should ascribe to and be loyal to a higher purpose; to the rule of law, to protecting the rights of the minority, to respecting all creeds and to treating all persons and nations equally under the law. |

And it still wouldn't make a damn thing of difference.

In priciple the electoral college is what our govt. is really representative of...all the states.
We are not a democracy or california & the northeast would rule the rest of the country. That would be like putting the inmates in charge of the assylum. OH! It looks like our election. I keep saying...TWO YEARS!!!! |

Our Government is so complicated and passed so many laws nobody knows where to start when it comes to voting.I read not too long ago that the current book on tax codes is over 7,000 pages!I wasn't too happy when they brought in those electronic voting machines. Not only were they unreliable I can imagine they were probably easily tampered with to fix elections. The paper voting was equally as bad and unreliable as we seen with the recent ACORN scandle. Some of the names ACORN had on their ballots...Mary poppins,John doe,Captin crunch,Sir votes alot, and many dead people.Voting should be done with a matching thumprint. It is the only way to be sure we get a fair election.

So, why does it even matter, electoral college or popular vote?
All we really "voting" about, is how Peter can steal from Paul, or Paul from Peter... It's not like we are going to prosper if we could steal more perfectly... since either Peter or Paul is going to be robbed anyway, minus the government fees for the "Implementation"? I am laughing my ass of with you, guys. |
