Interesting topic....I'm new to all this so I don't have any forum friends but even if I did they would never be as real as as good of a friend as a real life friend....how could they? Now....if my forum friend crossed over into a real life friend....because we met up somewhere and went out together in real life...then that would be different.

I agree!!! I've met some great people on here male and female... some in person and we hang out and some we live far and only talk on the phone, email, etc but we're making plans to meet as soon as we can...

I know when I am online I have time for anyone that wants to talk, especially those I know. Sometimes in my everyday world I don't have time for others because I have to take care of me. So in the cyberworld of friends I have time all the time for them, which makes me feel like I am a better friend for them than I would be in the real world.

Terry -- I have run across a fair number of people -- yourself included -- who, I am convinced, are every bit as REAL, and more so, than most of the friends I've had in real life.

That may be a bit of a misperception, to some degree, because I haven't actually met anyone from here in person -- but when you talk to people over a two-year period, on a regular basis -- people like Marie and Whisper and Eileen and Tanya and Lilith and Denise and Izzie and about 25 or 30 others -- you just get a sense of who they are and what they're about.

You know -- the ones who are always there with a supportive post or e-mail when you're down, always there to say something nice when you get a book or two published, or when you post a poem that no one in their right mind has any hope of understanding.

My real life friends have let me down a lot more than my friends on here ever have -- and I know that's two different venues, and you can't really make a fair comparison -- but it's still something to think about.

I have made some great friends on the internet that are as close to me as my friends in real life. When I call someone my friend that is what they are. I have aquaintances on here a couple I call friend.

Now saying that if one of my friends are in the wrong I will back them but I won't say they are right when they are wrong and I would do it privately.

I have made alot of really great friends on here. They are as realasany friend is. Unfortunately I havent met any in person yet-but would love to. Maybe someday. Only one lives in the same state as me.

Im only close to one person on here. Don't really know anyone but my GF.

no friends and no bonding on here alot of flirting.

There are some on my friends list that I don't really know much about, but we don't have an acquaintance list so they are on the friends list.

But there are some who have my private emails and phone number (and some just drop me notes on here) who define "friendship" like Lex said so well. The ones who are always paying attention to things that are happening in our lives and just take a minute to let us know they are there for you and that they care.

Some in "real life" won't even give you the time of day when things are going tough. But you get a quick note saying you are on their minds from the people who mean the most on here.

My friends on here are real.....just because you dont see them everyday.......you talk to them, pour out your feelings......they are real!!

I havent been on here long enough to make what I consider a friend. But I am hoping to
