Topic: Freeze | |

Why is it that sometimes I click on a topic and my screen freezes, and
the only way I can rectfy it is to close my computer down and restart it? |
|

had that problem myself a few times UK.

Does it happen to you on other sites also? There's nothing on our site
in particular that should cause this... |

Nothing wrong with your computer that a sledge hammer and $1500 wont
fix. Did you think of starting over with a fresh computer? I am not going to make jokes about reformatting and reloading the operating shttp://www.justsayhi.com/forum/list Communityystem. Microsoft is so friendly. Grins. |

NEW COMPUTER!!!!!! This one's only a year old.
And it's only on this site it's happened Mike. I've no idea what causes it. |

Maybe try turning off instant messaging to see if that helps? I doubt
that's the issue but you could try it. |

For everyone who is reporting a problem like this, it might help if you
noted and provided the day and time. When the site goes down for scheduled maintenance, my browser 'appears' to freeze up. Also, it looks like the scheduled maintenance does not always (?) occur at midnight PST. |

I'm using Internet Explorer -- no problems.

Buttons, thank you! I was aware of the normal system down time -
however, I believe the site has gone down at other times as well. I think Cat once reported a 4am central time, which corresponds to my experience of a 2am pacific time. I believe that all of the people who experience their "screen freezing" are simply experiencing the site being temporarily shut down. They find that the site is working after they reboot (or restart their browser), so they believe that action fixed the problem. I believe simply waiting is what fixed the problem. (I could be wrong!) To really determine what is going on, though, it would be helpful if each person who has a recurring problem of 'freezing' would report the exact day and time it occurred. I don't think there is anything wrong with the JSH site construction. (Though it would be nice if a 'down for maintenance' page was always immediately returned, instead of only occasionally.) |

We have nightly maintenance that goes on slightly after 2am pacific time
every night. It used to occur at 12am pacific time, but we found that a lot of people were still on at that time so we pushed it to 2am. We're working on a new maintenance procedure that should minimize or even eliminate the downtime. We're also adding some servers which may help eliminate some of the delays you guys may see occasionally. Hopefully those steps will help clear some of these issues up. |
