a better question would be why man is violent by nature and therefore, man corrupts all belief systems in a way or another.

I have read bits about it here and there and have always admired the teachings. There is a man and his wife who are local to me and every Sunday their home is open to anyone who wants to come and they are fed homemade vegetarian meals. They will talk to you about their beliefs or just feed you and be friendly...whatever you need. I have been thinking about going to them for a year and trying to learn more. I think maybe it's time.

I would be all over that opportunity. If not for the spiritual experience or the general life experience at least go for the free food!

Inner peace and compassion is the key to happiness. So far I find Buddhism really has good methods in attaining this.

Yes, and what I already do for obtaining and keeping that I learned from Buddhist teachings. So, I'm thinking I want to learn more.

The most peaceful religion is the one you have in your heart, and with which you are content. Because you have chosen it yourself it gives you peace of the mind. And if everyone would be content with what he/she has in his/her heart, there wouldn't even be a point to discuss. Throwing it out in the world as the only truth is what brings debate and fight about.

You can be like me. Monday and Tuesdays be a Buddhist, Wednesdays imagine being a dragon, Thursdays be agnostic, Fridays be a Atheist, and Saturday and Sundays believe in the Great Wanka Tanka Spirit of the Native Americans.laugh

on the side be a Wicca witch, study Mythology for entertainment purposes and create great fantasy stories for many to enjoy.

If all this doesn't work for you

just become a "humanatarian" if possible. They are the true prophets and caregivers of our world and beyond for their spirits are top notch quality. drinker

Oh, please don't misunderstand me. I am not looking for a religion to follow. My spirituality incorporates all the good from many religions. I just think the teachings of Buddhism would be helpful to me now and I only have a cursory knowledge of them.

That statement above assumes that man is violent by nature which is a premise that has not been established and I don't buy into that at all. Your opinion of course, but a very cynical attitude in my opinion. It's sad that you feel that way.

I think man has great capability for both deep love and hate but I don't think mankind was designed to be violent by nature.

Well, for Argument's sake, Atheism has yet to kill in the name of a god. . .

Oh no I was actually joking around. I think Buddhism is a great way to find solitude, inner peace, and happiness.

I would go to the couple and enjoy their conversations.

laugh Well, I'd have to agree with that. But, atheism is not a religion nor does it have any teachings that I am aware of.

No but there are some atheists governments that exert all power over others as if they answer to no one, hence they murder in cold blood to suit their agenda.

Zionism comes to mind.

Right I agree. I was just about to point that out however Atheists have killed those that practice a religion as a facet of their obtaining political control over the minds of those they seek to govern in some respect. Atheists have not killed nearly as many as those that have died in the name of some kind of invisible deity however. You are correct there.

The Judaian/Christian religion...just look at the USA to see that up until recently our nation was blessed by following God's laws.

Unfortunately for us, the secular brainwashing has blurred the line to the point of killing us off...in the political sense...probly soon in a more physical & economical sense too.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Christianity has a long history of violence. As do many other religions.

That is not a reality based statement.

You sure the Republican platform has had nothing to do with this?
