What role do you play in your family? (ie: the strong one, the smart one, the black sheep, the troubled one etc.) Most times, I'm the advice column and babysitter they like to call on. Sometimes, though, I end up the black sheep for a short while. Especially when I don't want to take sides in the family drama. Don't know why the phrase, "Leave me out of it, I love you both." should piss them off so much.. |

The oldest, perfect, responsible, educated, dutiful, happy, successful Mexican daughter.
The oldest, selfish, snotty, spoiled, know-it-all, couldn't'-do-anything-wrong sister. Well-rounded american girl. That's me all right!! |

I'm the black sheep. I am the one that gets forgotten for anything except a holiday gathering. They'll get together without inviting me but when I find out about it, I get "oh, we didn't think you'd be interested". Duh, let me decide that. I get told I am too independent and have too much pride. But when someone has a beef with another family member, I am always the first one they call. My sister insists that I am spoiled cause I am the baby, but she is the oldest and the spoiled one and my brother agrees with me.

The tragically flawed superhero from a time when teenagers in comic books were usually relegated to the role of sidekick to the series' main character. My experience with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness young readers could relate to. I did not benefit from adult mentors like Captain America and Batman and had to learn for myself that "with great power comes great responsibility".
