so true, nothing wrong with listening to the pastor, but check him out and anyone in Gods word for yourself. It is , after all, a personal decision and choice that can only be made by each person. It's between them and their creator. No one can Save anyone, Only Christ can. If one doesn't want to hear Gods word, no amount of teaching, preaching, brow beating, bible thumping, talking or reasoning is going to help until someone wants to hear or listen/study. Nothing wrong with questioning the status quo, the pastor, man, teachers. Check things out for yourself, always. If you come across something you don't understand, talk to God, ask him to help you, give you understanding, and many times you will gain something from what you are seeking.
